FYI: National Notary Registry scam

Received an email from some fly-by-night outfit called National Notary Registry, asking me to sign up. As I always do for anything that is free that will get my name out there, I filled out the registration information. Upon clicking "submit," though, I was told that it would cost me $1 to sign up. I clicked on Austin, a metro area of 1 million with one of the best real estate markets in the country. Exactly two -- count 'em, two -- signing agents had been suckered into signing up. You just KNOW that signing services and title companies are salivating all over themselves to skitter to a site with so many options. Obviously, it was a live-wire site.

I told them I'd be happy to pay the $1 fee, but I was going to charge them $5 for improving the quality of their site by registering.
