Jurat wording question
I had a signing this morning with notarial wording in the jurat that confused me. Hiring party is in AK, so not in office yet. Reads: Sworn and subscribed before me this 16th day of May, 2011 by________________ (blank) appeared John J. Doe. What goes in the blank? TIA!

The wording is not printed correctly
If John Doe is the signer, I would put John Doe in the blank and cross out the remaining "appeared John J. Doe".
Some document preparers simply don't have a clue how notarization works, let alone how a certificate is supposed to be filled out.

Re: The wording is not printed correctly
Robert--thanks! My state handbook did not have answers and hiring party wasn't sure what to do either. Appreciate your help.

Your state handbook DOES contain sample jurats and
acknowledgements - you can just revised the one provided to be compliant for your state. Robert's right - in this case you'd just put "by John Doe" lining through the incorrect wording (and initialing)...

Re: Your state handbook DOES contain sample jurats and
Yes it has examples, but at the top of the page giving examples, the ones shown are 'sufficient' and, per the SOS' office, as long as they contain that minimum information in the certificate, other wording may be included. The examples given in the handbook are the short form certificates only. I hadn't seen this particular wording before. I did look at my handbook before posting the question.
