Lets all Agree to Get Paid Ahead of Time
If the fees are set and fixed why not get pre-paid? Many service type providers get pre-paid or at least get some type of deposit upfront. Lets all of us set up "Paypal" account and have these companies pay us first. If we don't do what we promised or the amount pre-paid was more than the job cost, we can certainly refund them faster than what it takes them to pay us. Where is it written that we have to wait for payment? or that we have to provide Net 30 day terms? Everyone else gets paid at the close of escrow, why not us. How many of you are willing to start accepting pre-payment engagements ONLY or to be paid at the Close of Escrow ONLY? If we all agree on this we will have a paradigm shift in our industry and eventually become standard practice.

NVX you are dreaming. Will never happen
Our fees are not set and fixed, each of us (person/business) is responsible for their accepted fees and terms.

Re: NVX you are dreaming. Will never happen
Sheila, you are correct, however, I have a Paypal businessaccount and found it quite successful for getting paid. In the last two years no one here on notrot has ever seen me complain about not getting paid. Quite a few individuals here run their business that way to deter deadbeats from asking for servcies. Good companies will comply!!

I also accepted credit cards and paypal. This is not in order to work with questionable payers, but in order to accomodate and provide client convenience.

Not legal advice, yada yada, but what you are suggesting may well be in violation of antitrust laws. Each individual business is , generally , free to make it own rules, but can be a big problem is competing business collectively agree to certain conditons, prices, terms, etc. etc. Futher, such a condition for your biz, may well put you at the bottom of the "who to call" list.

Actually I have tried this. I have a paypal account. If I am offered a signing at a rate that I would normallv turn down, I have the SS, or TC. pay my fees via paypal and overnight the docs. I have no "out of pocket" expenses at this point. Does it work. Yes, only when they have been turned down by other notary's and have no other choice. Am I keeping lowball or no pay companies in business??? Not really, because they still have to have a 3 star rating or better. Less than 3 star "no way"
Will I get flack for this???? Absolutely!!!

IMO, legal problem with OP's suggestion was the
"Let"s all agree " part. As i said, if it works for your biz, then go for it.

No flack here. Actually that sounds good since low-ballers
are associated also with companies that don't pay. If you're paid in advance and you forget to dot an I or cross a "T" at least you are obligated/obliged to correct it without being dinged. IMO Good for you John.
