Question - Facebook Promotion
Do you use Facebook to promote your business?
One of the things I, an ever-entrepreneur, do for a little extra income is to help a business person who does not know how to use Facebook grow his. He does his thing, I do my thing.
I realize a lot of you don't use fb, but if you do so professionally, let me know what you think.
I had lunch with a RM LO last week. She does not have a website and she doesn't have a FB page....so, this may be a thing I will do for her, as well. (I charge an hourly rate. It's easy for them to see that I have been working on and to start seeing benefits of it.)

For me personally, no...FB is about keeping in touch
with my family in CT and out-of-state friends...

I do not personally use it but rather affiliated with a website that does use it to promote business...I am therefore linked in that respect.
I don't fully understand the whole wall, messages and friend request stuff offered but I'm damn sure I don't want every/anybody to be aware of everytime I type. I don't ever care to see who is on or off-line.
I feel the same as Linda....Social yes.

How many people that qualify for a RM use Facebook as in a percentage of their total membership? If she’s got a good mtg package for 20-somethings I’d say go for it! But for RM’s? I think Robert Wagner is too young to be simpatico with most of those who would qualify. JMO

Robert Wagner was born in 1930. He is the perfect age for a reverse mortgage. Erwin

Just my Opinion……. But I’m reminded of Robert Wagner playing a young hotshot pilot in the movie ‘The Hunters” Telling Robert Mitchum about something being “Real George” and calling him daddy or daddy-o, so I don’t relate him with Reverse Mortgages. I still ‘picture’ him as a kid. Just an example of my knowledge of marketing...as Erwin said he's probably perfect to sell RM's

Funny how we view those who have been in TV and movies. Hard to imagine them growing old. They will always be the same age to us as when we watched them. Hard to imagine them as they are now.

Les, the way it works is, if Grandma
interacts with RM page and you can run a promo to compel 100 Like-rs to put it on their walls...friends see it. If they do, they get 500 ways to cook cornbread or something like that. In that case you are pushing word of mouth. That's the free way to do it. There are advertising programs.

Re: Les, the way it works is, if Grandma
I am not Facebook literate. I am a (newer) member but I still don’t understand how to use or work the applications there. Most people I know my age (I would qualify for a RM) know little about Facebook, except their grandkids sent them something, and someone else that they never heard of sent then something with crude language involved. The gist of my post was I think it a venue more for people that would not qualify for a RM than those that do. But why not give it a try? I’m probably wrong, If Apple were selling I-phones to people like me they would have sold 3 by now. I want a phone to be a phone, no musical tones, no games, just a phone. JMO

Question - Facebook Promotion
I can tell you, from my experience of taking recent marketing classes, that social media is crucial in today's advertising if you're looking to get the most. I took a Writer's Workshop for Hay House Publishing last weekend and one of the things that was stressed is that you must utilize every bit as possible now a-days (is that a word?).
One of the very first and the most important ones they said is Facebook. The next they mentioned was Linked In, another was Twitter and others.
The only thing is that if you're going to use them, you have to go on and leave messages or correspond. They don't do much good if you don't use them.
I actually had a Title Company go on to my personal page and "friend" me. I was a bit taken aback because I wouldn't want my anyone from the business world knowing the information I have on it.
So I opened a Facebook page for my business. The problem is that I never go on it. Ugh...oh well...I also joined Linked In, but again, I never use it...lol...so even though I have the accounts, I'm not utilizing them to their best benefit.
Just thought I'd share the info given to me.

Thanks, NJDiva. That's my point exactly. I'm digging in and Fixin-ta get waist deep in it.

I do not use it to market, and here's why ...
While our MI Notary Network does have a FB page and it is kept apart from personal pages, it's been my experience thus far that FB isn't good for business-to-business. Were I interested in marketing directly to the public, I can see how it might be a great tool, and it seems to work for people I know who are marketing directly.
I also had a really hard time getting FB to keep my personal page and my identity on the Network page separate - such a hard time that I just removed myself entirely from the Network 'admin' setting. That now poses a dilemma because if I post now on the Network page, it will recognize & identify me as ...well, me, personally. Not a risk I want to take. Not that I have so much to hide, but my personal self just isn't the same as my professional self (of course).
I don't have a lot of trust in the whole FB experience, and in fact have deleted myself TWICE now. I certainly can't trust it to keep my accounts separate. It does make keeping in touch with my kids and other family/friends so easy, but you know - overall, I think the effect it is having on the experience of staying in touch isn't all that beneficial. But ...that wasn't the question. =)

No, I don't use FB or Twitter for business. I know that's
become the rage. IMO it can be a total PIA. That #s site is pitching over there, and it gets annoying. Yes, I get the free advertising, etc., but what demographic do you expect to reach? I see the buzz of almost every business I can think of as being on FB. Does just advertising that you're on there mean you're current with the trends? So far the only advertising that has ever paid off for me was on the top listing sites & yellowpages.com. I'm always told by those calling me for general notary work that they found me by googling, which took them to the #s site or here. It works for me.

I have a FB page for fun and then 3 FB fan pages for my businesses. I use them mostly for sharing tidbits of information and connecting with clients.
I love Facebook and have heard that some businesses use it exclusively for their online presence. I still have a website, too, but the FB addition is more personal and allows interaction. I have it set up so that my 3 FB Fan pages automatically post to my Twitter page, too. I love it.

Ding, ding...there you go...people use fb each day...you can't update your status about what you had for dinner. Gotta provide interest content and get a few of them involved.
If you run a straight page for your business, you do have to stay on top of it so that you don't have kooks (FB friends) posting bizarre ads on it...and, you have to hide those kooks.
It's time consuming. That's why people need people to work their fb pages.
I predict more helpful business apps on fb real soon.
Folks, I didn't say I loved it and thought it was the greatest thing since the pink-handled Bowie knife. I'm just saying it's a business necessity if one wants to appear connected with clients.

I have a FB page..I use it mainly for connecting with family and friends. I do have a few TC as friends..And I have quite a few notary friends too. I like having the notary friends..because we can discuss work on a more personal level. I do not have a business FB page.
I have such a busy life that I cant be linking, tweeting, FB etc and actually get some work done too..! I have a website and for general notary work that is great..people tell me they googled a notary/ mobile notary and I am the only one that shows up. As for loan signing the TCs tell me they found me here and the numbers site..Works for me..
