Webcam notarization update?

Have the SOS from any states other than WI and CA come out and stated that the webcam notarizations are not acceptable in their state?

Would appreciate any info from NotRoters. TIA

Our handbook says "A notarization cannot be done via video conferencing or similar video technology."

Roger, I have an email from the Texas sos that says (paraphrased) 'no way'.

I wonder if those guys even realize that their electronic notarizations are worthless unless all parties agree to use e-notarization.

If their method became legal, there would be no reason to use that platform. A webcam and an electronic seal would do the trick. I have both. Although it is not a bad idea, there's no requirement of "secure connection" in any notary laws that I have found. That's one of their selling points.

How would they know?

You're saying "acceptable" in their state, so I'm presuming you mean, for example, would my state accept a document from VA that was notarized in VA via webcam. How would we know it was notarized via webcam? I haven't been following this too closely since it is verboden to do here, but is there something in the VA notary statement that has to indicate that the document was notarized in VA via a webcam or "video conferencing" process?

Re: How would they know?

I would surely hope that if a notarization was done via webcam there would be a difference..But you're right how do we know? Ok VA notaries..lets hear from you!

My guess is it won't contain an original "wet"

signature by the "signers" or the notary - they contain electronic signatures and e-seals - and I have to think they have a different look to them than the standard "old fashioned" notary signature and stamp/seal.
