need to vent.

I have a quick question. Does anybody have a issue with a signing company calling you to schedule an appt. only to be told the docs will be ready shortly, and the docs show up 2 hours after the scheduled appt.

This has happen to me more times than I care to admit. The LO , and the signing copmpany, dont seem to understand they tie me up all day waiting for the docs to show up.

I have better things to do than sitting around waiting for docs, I have declined other jobs, because I am already commited to another signing company. waiting for docs to show up.

Any thoughts

Are you new Mike? Welcome to this industry! It's "Just the way it is." lol If you're going to be in it, you've got to learn to accept it There are ways to work around it, but the fact of the matter is is that this happens more times than I care to say.

Wrong Ms. NJDiva...that's NOT the way it is for most

experienced NSA's.

ATTENTION ALL NEWBIES:

PLEASE start giving anyone that hires you for a closing, a "drop dead" time limit. Some low ball SS are notorious for leaving NSA's hanging! Give your hiring party a time limit when you absolutely need the docs, or you will walk.

Otherwise, you will be wasting your time waiting hours on end, watchin' the grass grow, and may potentially lose out on other potential closings due to that hiring parties' inability to meet deadlines...my motto, "an emergency on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine!". If my deadline is up, its up, and I move on. Keep all communication via email, followed up with phone calls.

If docs are not ready for you, by your drop dead time limit, then move on.... Smile

Wrong????? Ms. NJDiva...that's NOT the way it is for most...

OUCH!! Easy there Mr/Ms Rivera. As I said, there are ways around it! Geesh! I didn't feel like typing anymore, I figured other people would share what they do. I was just saying that it IS typical in this industry. Unfortunately in this day and age, it's not really so cut and dry anymore.

As "most" experienced (you forgot Professional) "C"NSA's do, I am sure to make it clear when I need my doc's. If it gets close to the time, I follow up to find out what the status is. I reiterate that if I don't get them by a certain time, they'll have to find another notary. There are times when I can be flexible and then there are bottom line times that I give them at this 2-3 hour follow up call.

In today's industry I'm sure "most" notaries will agree that you have to be flexible to a certain degree. I absolutely do not sit around waiting for doc's if I have other appt's on my calendar, but the fact of the matter is that with all the new notaries, and the way this economy is, the company's absolutely need you to be adaptable if possible.

Please don't insinuate (or ass-u-me-because though I do have one, I'm not always one!!!) that I am not experienced. I don't necessarily work for SS's so maybe that's why you're coming off so offensively (IMO-at least to my sensitive eyes...lol.) I can appreciate your response and advice for sure. Smile Smile I say ditto to what you stated. If I ever tell you you are wrong (or anyone else for that matter) will you PLEASE call me out? I want to be reminded of how it feels. I hate being wrong...lol

It doesn't happen to me because I give them my terms up front. When I accept the signing, I tell them on the phone that I have to have the complete and final loan package a minimum of 3 hours before the signing appt time. If they say "okay", I then follow up with an emailed response giving them my terms....one of which is that the documents must be to me by X:XX o'clock (am/pm) central standard time and if they aren't, I will remove the appt from my schedule. If at such time the docs are ready, they will have to call me to see if I still have time in my schedule to do the signing and if I do, a minimum $25 late fee will be imposed.

I make them respond to my email accepting my terms. (I also have my payment terms in that email).
At that point, I contact the borrower. It's made my life so much easier and less stressful.

Have you ever noticed how many terms they have for us? As a businessperson, it's only right that my company has terms, too. It works, but I got screwed around plenty waiting on late docs prior to deciding I didn't want to ride that signing-time-has-come-and-gone-and-no-docs-arrived-yet ride.

Additionally,it costs a lot to wait around for docs and make

numerous phone calls to the hiring company and the borrower. If you are "stuck" in this situation time how long you have been on the phone and how many times you are refreshing your browser. You will be surprised at how long it will take you deal with this BS.

You can kiss your profitability goodbye even if you were being compensated a fair fee. JMO

Normally the Signing Service has nothing to do with the docs. They get an order, they schedule it. Title does have to prepare some docs, but the “late” docs are most times title waiting for final approval from the lender. If you don’t like late docs, have the borrower call his LO, or get into another business. Many here have an absolute deadline, telling the SS if I don’t have the docs three hours prior to the scheduled time, I won’t do the job. In today’s market this attitude is simply shooting yourself in the foot. Unless there are no other notaries in your area, the scheduled will almost always call someone else. Why schedule the signing twice? Once with you, then when you turn it back, again last minute with someone else? Saying you have a three hour drop dead time, unless you really have something like a two hour drive, is like saying you only accept overnight docs. Better to take the job, call the borrower find out how flexible they are on a time, and hope for the best. Yes it’s a pita, but anyone scheduling assignments less than 2 hours apart is just looking for problems. Better to turn down the low-ball offers, charge more, and do fewer assignments. JMO.

If you don't have docs by sched. time & a closing comes up -

take it! Just calmly & professionally call SS & ask them to notify you as soon as docs are ready as you have another closing in the meantime. When I don't have docs at the AGREED upon time, I check w/ BO on availability & explain their docs aren't ready.

The SS & TC need to know this is your business NOT a hobby!

Anytime you get one of those calls for same day signings this can happen.

One time I told title about my time limit they said ok . I called when time was up then I left to my daughter' s house. Sure enough when I got home there were docs.
