A good, inexpensive cell carrier

I was just searching here on NR. Husband is tired of our $200. or better bill from AT&T. Can anyone tell me if the have or have used a good cell carrier that is on the cheap/unlimited. My daughter of course has an i phone which I am sure she will freak if she couldn't use it. Thank you in advance!

That depends on what you want, Linda

I personally have no need for a smart phone with all the bells and whistles. I dropped my Verizon plan - $90/month for only 400 minutes, two phones,....I even paid the early termination fee as I made the savings up in 3 months. I went to straight talk - got a refurbished phone for $20 - I pay $30/month for 1000 minutes talk, 1000 texts and 32mb web browsing - unlimited is $45/month. If you get the unlimited plan, I believe you can add a second phone for only $25/month...

It does all I need it to do...and then some - and I'm loving those savings every month!!

Check here for availability and options. http://www.straighttalk.com/

Good Luck.

What's really frustrating is...

I'm with you Linda. I don't want or need a data plan, and I currently don't pay for one. I have an LG ENV3 which may be considered a smart phone but all I have on it is talk and text. I forward my work emails to my phone as texts, so I get notified when docs arrive in my inbox or if I need to respond to a work offer from a regular client.

IMHO cell plan fees have just gotten out of control. Last summer I satisfied my two year contract with Verizon and cell phones seem to be designed to only last the two years before they begin having issues, so I have been looking around at phones. Almost every phone offered by the big carriers REQUIRES a data plan. Phones that do not require a data plan are few - the carriers are trying to push everyone into a data plan.

I'm honestly thrilled with what I have...it more than suits

my needs. Unlimited talk, text and web for $45/month? I'm sorry, but you can't beat that with a stick..Smile

This comes up regularly on NotRot, and I always recommend Boost. $45 a month, and you get a bonus rate of $40 after six months. All the bells and whistles you need.

Love my Boost. Really love my Vonage.

I've heard of some friends lately that went to Boost

Mobile. Apparently it's a flat mo. fee for unlimited usage.
Unfortunately, as long as I'm in this biz I need the smart phone & the mo. costs are a tax-deductible business expense.

I have a Boost smart phone

Samsung Galaxy, now $149.
Unltd Plan starts at $55, but goes down $5 every 6 months if you pay on time, down to $40 after 18 months.
Love it!

I have Straight Talk too-the $30 plan is all I need, 1000

minutes goes a long way My only gripe is that the minutes do not roll over. Otherwise great phone, no technical issues, etc. I have the basic flip phone but they do sell a model comparable to an iphone. Good luck!

Thank you!!!! Great info to look into!

Linda, I told my husband about your phone. He called and I think that is what he is going with. Thanks again everyone! And an early Happy Thanksgiving to all!
