About this time of year, and into summer...
...I start getting a lot of tax loans. They provide a substantial fraction of my revenue during that period.
I got my first one this afternoon, and turned one down Friday from a company I don't normally service, and in celebration went out to eat. A fancy new Indian restaurant -- you know, stemware, more forks than dishes to use them on, napkins so starchy you could hang them as wallboard -- has just opened up right down the expressway from me. So, I thought I would check it out, though I had never developed a taste for Indian food in the past. That, despite having had several fairly close Indian friends.
I'm now almost 75 years old, and I can finally say without reservation that I do not like Indian food. Thai, yes. Indonesian, yes. Ethiopian -- bring on the fried grasshoppers. But there will be no more forays to see if anything -- my tastebuds, the flavor of curry, strange smelling spices that are left over from curing saddle leather -- has changed about Indian food.
I can, though, offer one caution to anyone who has not yet reached my level of enlightenment about the subcontinent's cuisine, and who still insists upon trying it.
You will not retain the respect of any waiter from New Delhi if you request ketchup for your lamb shish kebab.

No matter how you spice, slice or dice, this belongs in Leis
Leisure forum. You, of all people, know this.
But it is that Dim thing - so progressive you can't find your sensibility as you rush headlong into print.
