Bank requesting drivers license, SSN & power bill copy
I made a copy of all three on one page and was asked to do so for a bank account I had and have it notarized. At a local bank that I have an account with and did other items for me told me that their policy is not to notarize copies. Was I supposed to bring the originals or what?

Can you clarify? I get that the bank asked for the three doc's but you say for a "bank account I had." So if you already had the bank account, why were they asking for the doc's? Very confusing. Need more info.

A Notary Public cannot verify the accuracy of a copy without seeing the original, so yes, you should have had the originals with you. Some states, like Colorado, require the Notary to keep a copy of the original for their records.

I notice the New Jersey Notary Manual makes no mention of notaries being allowed to certify copies, so strictly speaking the notary does not need to see the originals; it is the signer who is certifying the copy is a true copy.

Wait a minute. I'm confused. The bank shouldn't be verifying the authenticity of the copies...they should be authorizing the authenticity of Your acknowledgement that the copies are the true and correct copies of your originals. Or a bank could authorize that bank's own averment that you have, or had, a bank account there at that bank. I must be missing something here.
