CA Commission Renewal - 3 hr course
We haven't sold our house yet (to move to AZ) so I'm going to have to renew my CA commission which expires in May. I understand it takes about 5 months to renew. I don't want to be stuck in CA with no commission, so I'll renew so I can keep working while we're here.
Anyway, has anyone in CA taken the 3-hr course and can recommend a site? I looked on the SOS site and there are over 200 places, so I'm counting on my NotRot friends to recommend a good one.
Thanks!

Look no further
If you want an online course, I recomment the one here. I've taken it the last two times I've renewed. It's FREE if you have a premier membership. It's very user-friendly. You can stop and go whenever you want. When you pass the test, it immediately spits out a completion certificate which you take to the state test with all your other paper work.

Re: Look no further
It was taking 4-5 months for new commission/renewals in 2009 & 2010, but now it's only taking 4-6 weeks after passing test and background check is approved.
We have 130,000 fewer CA Notaries since 2008 and that might be the reason the state can commission quicker. We are down to 163,000 notaries in CA.
I am teaching in San Diego in Feb. Call me.

Re: Look no further
It's amazing the declining numbers of notaries. I can't say that it's noticeably affected me one way or another .... hmmmm, wonder if that's good or bad ...
In any case, I will say that the testing people have cut waaaay back on the number of testing sites. I just took my test and several people had to come in from surrounding counties.
Also, most of the people in my test were bank workers. There were a few renewing NSAs - obvious by their haggard looks, stressed-out behavior and by barely making it from their last signing to the test site in time.

Re: Look no further
There are really very few bank notaries around anymore (Wells Fargo is the only bank that tends to send their employees to classes).
Most of the students, I have taught in the last 4 years have not been in the bank or mortgage industry.
They are typically from UPS Stores/ mail box stores, insurance, taxes, some travel/ some construction (jurats for bids)/etc.
We get a few in each class from escrow/lender/title but very few. As far as renewing loan signers, if I get 2 in a class it's a miracle!!
I am so busy that I am constanly recommending other notaries in Riverside & San Bernardino.
I did 3 signings today and turned down 4 others.

NotRot has the best!
I just took it this month, the day before my exam and it was better than any in-person classes I have taken.
And the price was right!
