I am an independent contractor

I have not completed a single closing this month. Here are some of the reasons.

1) A particular SS contracted me to act as signing agent on 2 separate occasions. However, when the borrowers saw the HUD figures, each cancelled because that was not what they wanted to do. Their third call, I was unavailable.

2) A new company contacted me to travel 35 miles one way offering my 20 mile rate. I requested a little more for time and distance. They will not pay more, so I agree to the lesser fee. Send my standard "no matter what, if I complete signing I get full pay within 30 days" acknowledgement, and they cannot agree to that, so they cancel me.

3) LOTS of anywhere from $30 for a 75 mile trip to $75 for high-page-lender-docs requests. I am unwilling to compromise on those.

I anticipate getting last minute calls over the holiday because I will be available most of the time. Perhaps they'll meet my fees then.

My monthly income is still good because of many GNW requests that pay upon delivery of my services. And I expect several of those calls this weekend too.

I'm getting calls for 2 counties over =- wanting to pay rock bottom, no additional for driving, etc. Never worked with these people in the past. They are telling me that no one will answer their phones. Does that tell me something? That I should charge less - ROFL! They are the ones in a pinch, not me and I'm not joining their lists of those complaining.

I told them that everyone is talking of closing up shop at noon until Monday - they still don't want to pay. Eventually the order will go elsewhere and perhaps the next SS will actually be willing to pay more.

Have to wonder too if any of the services will have

staff available to answer questions from the table.

Do you think they will take their phones home with them? My bet: 5 people will be assigned to cover the day, all 5 will believe that the other person will answer, therefore, they don't need to answer. The notary will be leaving VM's that will go unanswered.

Re: Have to wonder too if any of the services will have

That's the time an experienced, professional NSA will be the most valuable to them. The experienced NSA will be more likely to have a viable solution. But, the contractor must be willing to pay for the knowledge! Too often, it's still "do it on the cheap."

Kinda like the mechanic when a man took his car in to be repaired. The mechanic only took 15 minutes to solve the problem, so the man complained that the charge was too high for 15 minutes' work.

The mechanic replied, "But I knew how to fix the problem. That's what you're paying for."

I've only done 2 this month.

I could have done a lot more if I was willing to work for nothing.

I'm shutting down right now for the holiday because

I have done more signings (ya hear me Les?) the last eight days then in the last 65 days (yes I counted) so I'm blessed.

I think it was because everyone was busy and I was the only one left. ROFL

Re: I'm shutting down right now for the holiday because

As the Aussies would say: “Good on ya mate!”
I did one yesterday at 5:30 PM (turned down three, all the same time frame)
I’m not available today or tomorrow, or Friday. Been shopping, got lots of stuff, I think we are having 12 people….. I cook all day tomorrow…may have some wine while doing so. Found some great Carlson vineyard cherry wine (not cherry flavored, made out of cherries) goes great with turkey.
Enjoy your holiday!

Hmmm - Cherry wine

I already survived 1 trip to the store today which seemed very similar to a 3 alarm fire,
but that cherry wine sounds like a must have!

Re: Hmmm - Cherry wine

This stuff is not sweet (like Manischewitz) it’s semi-sweet/tart at least semi-dry but full bodied. Tastes like pie cherries. Bought 6 bottles…thinking about breakfast…no I’ll just have to wait until dinner.
