Need a partner to start signing company
Hello,
I am looking for a dedicated partner to start a document signing company. I have everything in place, the name, website (notary and client management system already installed and working -worth over $5,000), toll free phone number, pretty much everything. The person that I am looking for needs to be a notary (with at least 2 years of experience in document signing) or anyone that has at least 2 years of experience working in a signing company. I created this business because of my mother however due to an illness she was unable to continue with the project. So now everything is just sitting there therefore I am looking for someone to partner with that knows the ins and outs of running a signing company. If you are interested please submit a letter of interest: [e-mail address], be sure to include your years of experience and contact information. If you have any questions you may also call me on my business line at 307-633-9667. Thank you.
Okechi

It sure sounds it, huh? With all due respect if we're just being cynical, but it kinda gave me a creepy feeling.

Do you have the $50,000 in capital to pay your notaries and your overhead for your first month? Do you have contacts established with several Title Companies/Lenders to do business with them? Do you have the million dollars worth of general liability insurance required my most you will need to do business with? Does this ‘insurance’ extend to the notaries you will contract with. Have you been ‘approved’ by Fidelity National, and others like them? Are you licensed to business in FL? Are you a US citizen? Do you have a criminal record? If you can answer yes to these questions, what will your ‘partner’ need to produce, and how will the company proceeds be divided and who will have the ultimate decision making authority?

......and when all those questions are answered, will they pay for "printed docs", no signs, and all the other issues that crop up?
I would think once, twice, then another 3 or 4 times before getting into this business.

Did a Google search on the name Okechi Nobles. Found that she is an ESL teacher and owns/owned a gift shop for over 9 years. Perhaps the business side is taken care of, but I don't see anything indicating any experience in the NSA business.

"... Do you have a criminal record? If you can answer yes to these questions..."
Is this a Freudian slip? Although sometimes it seems like that could be a prerequisite to running a signing service, I'm sure that's not what you're suggesting! [Sorry, I just couldn't let that slide by... ]
Good, important questions, though, that should be considered by anyone wanting to get into the signing business. The original poster likely also needs an attorney. If we take the post at face value, my advice would be to do a lot more research about the business and the whole industry before jumping in further. If the original reasons for doing this no longer apply, it may be wise to start from scratch, do a solid business plan and see if it still makes sense. That will be tough to do, though, without any personal experience.
BTW, another good idea might be to start from today and work backwards on this board reading posts about some of the challenges that people have encountered in their day-to-day activities. This will give you something of an idea of the kinds of issues you'd have to deal with. If you go back far enough, you'll get at least a pretty good start at an education about this field.

You caught me! Should have said “do you not have a criminal record.” Although I think that many that try the SS business probably do. Actually I think one could run a SS from prison, you just need schedulers on the outside. A perfect business for those that are dishonest. All you need is a phone, and a PO box. You don’t need to speak English,(your schedulers should) you don’t need to be a citizen, you don’t need any credit,(the notaries give that to you for free) You don’t need to know anything about the business, (many don’t) you don’t have to be a notary. You don’t need any kind of license. You don’t need experience. You can have a criminal record. You can run the business from offshore. You get people to work for free, and you NEVER have to pay them.

Oy vey!! Let's not encourage them! We've got enough of those types in the business already!! But I guess you pretty much nailed the business plan used by some of the nefarious types that keep getting posted about over and over again - and get the one-star ratings...

I never ceases to amaze me how people are so quick to paint with such a broad brush.
To even suggest that all signing services are bad with potential criminality in their past is nothing sort of shameful and reprehensible.
Shame on you Les-CO

Need a partner to start signing company?can't read Howard?
I did NOT say that Howard. I said a "perfect business for someone dishonest" If you will take the trouble to read some of my posts you will find that I am among the few 'fans' of the HONEST SS's and actually believe they are NOT parasites but a boon to our business. The deadbeat thieves are another story.

Thank you for the post. I really do appreciate it. My question now is what do I do with the software program . . . sell it?
|
Reply by Les_CO on 11/10/11 10:56pm Msg #403539
Just FYI. There are several companies that provide software/website services to Signing Service Companies and to Title Companies that run their own ‘in house’ Signing Service. These sights not only provide the software but a data base of thousands of notary signing agents. These companies usually charge a per order fee, that costs dollars a month. IF your software works and is easy to use I suggest you market it to either those sites, or to someone that could use it such as Title Companies that do their own nationwide signing business or those that may want to start. If you are here in CO the Title Companies in Denver would be a good place to start. I wish you luck.

I am a US citizen and no i do not have a criminal record. I have a licensed business in Wyoming called ESL Certified but I currently live in Colorado. I was once a notary in Florida but I never did much with it. I do not have the other things listed but I am willing to obtain them. Concerning the other things you mention I am justing wanting to make use of the software program that I had built for my mother so I open to discussing the terms of the partnership with whoever is interested in partnering with me.

Doesn't sound like she has any notary experience or may not even be a notary.
That may be why she is looking for someone with experience.

I appreciate everyone’s feedback . . even the silly ones. After reading all of the replies I must say that I was not expecting to be taken as a scam artist - that was the reason why I gave so much of my personal information. Anyway with everything consider I feel it would be best to just sale or rent the software program and/or site and this forum helped me to see that- thank you all.

Some on the forum like to take a spin on something like this
Since there is no much internet spam & scams, a post like this is always suspect. I feel your offer is sincere, and that you are just looking for someone experienced in this biz to partner with. As far as I know, you don't have to have a notary commission in order to run an ss. While I prefer the one's operated by someone who understands what we're up against, it isn't a requirement. Good luck! The timing to start up in this biz isn't exactly great.

It just doesn't pass the smell taste....
Any reasonable person who has invested $5000 in a business would definitely start out locally so as to minimize risk and help build a good working relationship (this will take TIME). Why throw out how much money you've invested unless you want the partner to also bring in that much? It just sounds like a pyramid scheme to me.
We all have invested thousands of dollars into our business (those who have been around 5 or more years!!).
If you cannot effectively and efficiently run the business, then sell it, don't partner. My .02
