Newbie is not the same as dumb!

Ok just got a call from a closing company & they wanted me to do a signing for $70 bucks! I won't get the docs until 6:00 am & the signing is at 8:00 am & they are edocs that I have to prepare a copy for both parties! anything on my schedule before 8:oo am is consisting of an early appointment fee & the lil Diva had the audacity to be upset- Am I dumb or should I have just taken the assignment?

Good for you

Regardless of the time of day, a $70 signing is disgusting. Go ahead and take it if you want; just be sure to list it as a charitable deduction on your taxes. That is if you got paid at all. Remember the rule of thumb: Low pay = sloooow pay or no pay.

Re: Good for you

I still haven't been paid for the 1st signing I did & I reduced my fees for those rascals, but I will not make that mistake again & the information here on NORO is very helpful. The Hughness would be proud! LOL

Agree with you on this one, Wildflower.

Know your business plan and stick to it. If you usually charge extra for early morning or late evening, advise the caller. If they get upset and don't recognize that you are running a business and set your own fees, then they can move on.

Besides, $70 is WAY too low for edocs ... unless (example) it's a 3-pager POA and within 5 miles.

You did good.

First of all...YAAAAAY WILDFLOWER!!!

You go girl!!!

However, I just request that you not use Diva (especially with a capital "D") in a derogatory manner...tee hee Afterall, I'm sure you would not want anyone envisioning a wildflower to be loose and promiscuous would you? lmao just teasing! xo

I agree with everyone in that $70 is really an insult. It's too bad people lower themselves to that level.

Aww, c'mon, Stoli, don't go there. The man's paid his

dues, and well-deserves HisHughness status, and the courteous respect for his prolific contributions to this forum over the years.

After all, he is well and widely regarded, and as he and Lucy settle into those oldie-goldie years, we're so fortunate for his humor. For his breadths and depths of myriad pools of knowledge and experience; and, love it or hate it, a masterfully cunning linguist in debate.

But, in all honesty, can any woman, (Lucy has already voted,) doubt for a nanosecond that Nobel Gas or not, he'd fluff the covers?

I think not; after all, he's just a man.

Lesson learned--companies can smell a newbie & will

try to offer low fees. Good for you for turning it down. Accepting the low fees only hurts you & everyone in the long run. :-)

Re: Lesson learned--companies can smell a newbie & will

There is alot that is involved when a signing assignment is presented. Much information to know & therefore they should be delighted to pay such minimal payments to us for our time, qualifications and for just doing our job! Otherwise, I won't be able to accommodate my pro bono clients and I am not letting my petals blow in the wind for that! LOL

Re: Lesson learned--companies can smell a newbie & will

After four years on doing this NSA job it has become apparent to me that there is a correlation between the amount of money being paid for a signing and the additional requirements to accomplish the task.

I have noticed that when TC calls me the conversation goes like this. I have a borrower that needs your services on this day at this time, we will pay this amount, X days after closing, are you available? the amount is usually $150.00 up.

Then there are the calls that are like this. Can you help us out? We need you to call now and confirm signing time with borrower, we don't have the Docs yet but we're working on them. Oh yea, we need a W-9, BGC, copy of E & O, ETC. so far, there has been no mention of compensation. When you ask, you get, "we pay $80 for e docs in 45 days after funding and receiving invoice.

Is this just me, am I imagining this?
