Now What-I got the education, the bond,
So I am at the last step of becoming a notary in the state of pennslyvania, and feeling a little lost of how do I become a successful notary. Once I go to the courthouse, and then get my supplies I really do not know what to do next.
I got into the thought of being a notary because I wanted to get a part time job that I have control on my hours rather than the other way around where I am bound every weekend to the part time job I have now.
I really want to this to work I just don't know what are by steps of action. I appreciate in advance any help someone can give me. Mentors are kindly appreciated too!

"How do I get started?" = Advertise Advertise Advertise.....Market Market Market
Local papers, free web listings, get a website...make your presence known.
Develop a business plan - know what you need to make in order to PROFIT and not work at a loss.
Allow yourself a good year or two to become firmly established and see the fruits of your labor. In the meantime, don't give up your day job.
All of the above should have been though out BEFORE you decided to make being a notary public a career choice.
After that...read here - read Msg #33325 (some outdated but still a good solid building base); search "newbies", "new notary" and si

Dangit..to continue...
search here for "newbies", "new notary" and similar keywords - this topic has been discussed ad nauseum - there's a lot of information on this site that's been previously posted that will help you. Depending on what you intend to do with your commission will dictate what monetary investment you'll need to make - aside from the investment already made in the commission.
The main thing - study study study and know your notary laws COLD before you offer yourself out to the general public.
Good Luck.

There is soooo much to learn in order to be a professional NSA. Good luck!
Given the number of people new to the site asking similar questions, I am convinced that a "for newbie" tab should be added to seven tabs above.

Sorry about that.
You really didn't even say what you expected to do with having a commission, whether you bought someone hype as to why it was valuable to become a notary. You have not given enough information here. (jmo)

Tanya, this is flexible to a point. Yes, you can say yes or no to appointments that come your way, buuuut, sometimes when the appointments are slim you end up taking appointments when you had something else planned. If you need the extra income, then you will probably be giving up more than you realize. This profession is not consistent and it can be feast or famine.
Im just telling you this so you dont have unrealistic view of what this profession is

Ain't that the truth!!
"This profession is not consistent and it can be feast or famine."
And, therefore, Linda now works a 9-5 .... too much famine for me to tolerate.
