Phishing
My humblest apologies to any of you who received an email from my yahoo account re. whatever it was....meds, enhancements, etc. Two people emailed me today to let me know my account was hacked, I have over 20,000 people in contacts. The good part is that I now know whose email is invalid due to company closure, layoff, etc. I am cleaning up my contact folder.
What does one do after their email account has been hacked? I know YAHOO.com knows, they are working in the back end trying to remedy this. Anyone else had this dreadful experience, what did you do?

I have it happen occasionally and I was told "change your password". That doesn't help at all.
So, you know what I did? I emptied my Yahoo Contacts list completely. I left my own address in the Contact List....that way I can see when someone has hacked me. But...since my contact list is otherwise empty, the hacked email goes nowhere except to me.
Since emptying my Contacts, I've had the phishing emails hit at least 10 times...so it's protected the people I know from receiving these emails. It's more difficult for me to email people...but I can still email them by searching my Inbox for emails I've received from them.
I know of no other way to prevent the spread of this dis-ease. If someone knows another way, please let me know.

Changing your password only works until another one comes along, unfortunately.

Mine got hacked...they not only sent one of those
stupid emails to everyone on my list - "help I'm in London and stranded" - but they stole ALL my contacts - wiped it clean....and I can't restore it...
I closed my yahoo account.

"I closed my yahoo account."
Unfortunately, I think that - or close to it - is the best solution. I have a Yahoo email account only because of Yahoo groups I belong to, but I don't give it out for anything else and I do not store any email addresses in ANY online directories.
Everyone I know of who has had either of the two problems referred to here, has had it happen with a Yahoo account. There are too many other choices available these days to continue to use Yahoo as a primary email solution. Sad to say, I think the best thing to do is close the account completely, create another new one for whatever has to be through Yahoo, then use something else (gmail, Outlook, etc.) for email and storage of contact info.

I need some Viagra.
I just need it to stick out far enough so I won't pee on my golf shoes.

You're so funny, Buddy. Thanks for sharing a ManCave
joke.
A friend of mine's trying to hook me up with his brother, so, when he's [oh, why do I feel like a bowling pin] yakking me up, bro says, "Hey, man, I don't have to order those blue pills, do I?" (hardeeharharhar) Or so the friend of mine "said" he said...
Heeeey, come to think of it, ya know, Buddy? Men bragging about "missing the golf shoes," and "peeing over the side of the boat ~gracefully~," is getting flat out tiresome. I know how big men's feet are, especially in white shoes...You men get all the breaks: and then brag. Gak!
Since my next line may not be suitable for family hour, I'll shut up now. It's Saturday night, hope everyone's groovy.

Re: Phishing another suggestion that might work for you
I have a yahoo account with aliases.....my primary account has NO contact info My aliases do. notarysigner is one alias, it has notary contacts, retiree is another, for friends and family, and so on for my Art (visual_arts), general notary work (notarypublic4u), etc. Anyway they all have different passwords so I can quickly isolate where the problem is.
I DO NOT USE my primary account at all, only to change it's password. I, knock on wood, have had no problems going on 12 years of doing this.

Re: Phishing another suggestion that might work for you
Hmmm...I'm pondering on how transition everything over. I've had this account for six years. It's devastating. I also am no longer getting emails on my phone. I've got so much on yahoo account, I don't know where to begin. Off to Verizon in a while to have them look at myy phone. Perhaps my phone was the subject of phishing, not my laptop. Wish I were smarter about this. Any way, you all thanks for tips. Hugh, you took a little stress off the situation with your quick wit!

Cheryl, that's exactly what happened to me
I know how you feel - I've had yahoo forever..all my contacts were there...and I lost them all...
I'm still rebuilding...I must admit though that the amount of spam I get has been cut drastically!

Re: Cheryl, that's exactly what happened to me
For now, I'm good. I've changed my password in Yahoo! Mail on laptop and on my cell phone. But my next step is to slowly migrate everything to a GMail account.
I have so many lending and settlement vendors out there who call me, it would be suicide to change cold turkey. Then there are all the boards I'm listed on so need to make a list of everywhere my email is on file and tackle this on a cold, rainy day when I'm not out there running around like an energizer bunny signing docs. This past week was killer, long days, many calls.
Thanks, everyone, for your input. I'm just wondering if it is possible to make more money selling Viagra than loan signing...I am pondering! I had some great belly laughs this weekend from Buddy and Hugh.

Do you sync your phone with your computer on a
regular basis? That happened to me, then my daughter told me I had to "sync" my phone. WHAT??? Anyway once I did it , all my contacts can back to my phone and email capabilities. Upgrades to you phone are constantly being provide via your computer, just two days ago free OS upgrade which provided additional security measures and extended battery life. Live and learn...from the kids.

I just added a picture to my sign in account. It's some kind of filter I think.
Also after reading this, I sign off every time instead of closing the window.
Thanks for the info everyone.
