Premier membership question
Somewhere I got the idea that if you have a premier membership here you get a discount on all/some supplies you buy here. Or am I just imagining things? Does it show up when you go to check out?

Re: Yes you do get a discount
Absolutely, I just renewed my California commission and obtained my insurance, stamps, bond, setc. at very fantastic pricing. Really better than any offers when I originally obtained my commission 4 years ago.

CA Commission renewal
Are they still offering the CA required classes online for free? In the year of your commission renewal, that makes it worth the Premier Membership alone!
John, how far in advance did you take your CPS exam? My commission expires next June, but they're only offering the state exam once a month in my area and I just found out I won't be available to take it on the December date that it's offered here. (I think I already missed the November date.)
Does anyone have any idea if waiting until mid-January will be soon enough? Naturally, I'm already getting bombarded by NNA with reminders that my commission is expiring and that I should take the exam "at least six months" prior to expiration... But their credibility with me is zilch.

Re: CA Commission renewal
I took my exam in Feb of this year and was notified of new commission being granted in May. I believe Stoli has some valuable info regarding the renewal process. I think she said even if you do it as early as I did they will NOT notify you until a month before your old commission expires. Stoli can explain why that is.

Re: CA Commission renewal
California Secretary of State experienced budget cuts, and as a cost savings measure, processes commission renewals within the last 30-days prior to the expiration of the commission.

Re: CA Commission renewal
I appreciate the feedback, but actually, I don't think that has anything to do with it. It's been that way at least since 2000 when I got my first commission, i.e. they have never sent commission materials sooner than 30 days from your expiration date (and it says so in the handbook).
My concern was whether or not I would get my commission materials in LESS than 30 days if I didn't take the exam until January. However, from what James said, it seems that isn't going to be a problem, unless something has changed since February - which I suppose is possible.
This appears to be one more strike against XYZ's credibility... No surprise there!

It's only taking approx 4-5 weeks to become a CA Notary
The number of notaries in CA has dropped from 300,000 in 2008 to approx 163,000 in Nov 2011. We will have approx 162,000 notaries at the beginning of 2012 and we have a population of 37 million. If this slide continues we will have under 160,000 notaries in 2012 and it could be 150,000 notaries if the slide continues at a 800-1,000 decline each month in 2012.
Consider a state like Florida that has approx 20 million population and has approx 500,000 notaries. No too tough to get notary/loan-signing assignments in CA if you are marketing correctly.
