WA Notaries - notice from WA DOL re ID
An excerpt from the last notice from the WA DOL Notary division in case there are notaries not signed up to receive these communiques:
"We often get questions specifically about identification documents. Remember that according to WAC 308-30-155 they must be current documents issued by a federal or state government with the individual's photograph, signature, and physical description.
"Although there are many forms of “ID”, the identification documents that notaries use to identify signers must contain ALL of the elements above. If a signer presents ID that contains ONLY SOME of these elements, YOU MUST NOT ACCEPT IT. As hard as it is to turn someone away, if you can’t identify the signer according to our law, do not perform the notarization. Remember, by properly identifying a signer of a document that you notarize, you are helping to prevent fraud and identity theft."
