reverse phone directories

I received a call while driving yesterday from a company I had never heard of and did not remember the name when I got home. I turned down the job (mainly because the timing was wrong, but wanted to check out the company. I have tried to look up the number through the reverse directories on-line, but all they give is that it is a valid number in Maryland, no company name without paying a fee. Does anyone know how to look up the name of a company using reverse directories for free?
