Fingerprints in Notary Journal
Is California the only state that requires fingerprints in notary's journal for deeds and POA's? Can you please respond if your state also requires fingerprints for these document signings? Also, are any other states now requiring notary's be live scanned for notary commission?

Re: CA and Illinois are the only states
To the best of my knowledge these are the only states. Arizona does not.

Journal not required in FL...however if we keep one
we are not authorized to take fingerprints. We can ask but if they refuse to give them we cannot refuse to notarize based on that refusal.

Julie: Live Scan is hasving your fingerprints taken
digitally and immediately sent to the DOJ. Instead of using paper cards to take a Notaries Public fingerprints when applying to become a Notary Public or applying for a renewal, "live scan" is a way to have the fingerprints taken digitally. The last two times I renewed my Notary Public Commission, my fingerpints were live scanned. It's like a photo copier, you place your fingers as directed and that's pretty much it.

Illinois requirements depend on type of doc. and county
If you are not working directly for a title co. you must obtain fingerprints on a specific form and record it in the office of the Recorder of Deeds if you are notarizing a QuitClaim or other Deed in Cook, Will, Kankakee, and Peoria Counties. Many of us are betting this will become State-wide requirement in 2012. Judicial Deeds and certain others are specifically excluded and are enumerated in the Statute.
