Heads up on the iPhone iOS5 update.
If you have not updated to the new operating system with your iPhone 4 or 3Gs, don't just yet.
I updated my wifes today and it crashed. Thinking that I must have made an error, I played around with it then since I couldn't resolve it, I hit the forums. I am not alone. Major issues with iOS5 with battery drainage. And if you do what I did, just sit it down and let the battery completely drain down, then you will be unable to reload it to change settings to try to get it going again. The battery needs just a tiny bit of juice left in it to connect to iTunes.
Here is a good forum. If you are having issues after updating it, you will find it here and some possible solutions.

If you haven't updated, then wait for a while. It's my understanding that even the new 4S is affected.
Beware, this isn't the same Apple I bought my first computer from or who made my G4.

I haven't had any problems with mine...in fact it appears to hold a charge longer. I read the thread you provided and it appears someone posted a "fix" about 2/3 down the page. Thanks for the alert though, I'lll be watching. I'll ask my daughter in the A M to see if shes having problems.

Re: update more info about problem
Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, our issue has gone beyond these remedies. If you have the battery drain problem and don't address it, then the software has a known glitch that will allow the phone to completely drain the battery instead of turning off when there is a little left. What happened to my wife's was the firmware thinks the battery is charged when plugged into a charger now, even though it's completely drained. So when I try to connect it to iTunes, there is not enough power in it to activate the USB port and connect to iTunes so the charging may continue via iTunes. Thus we can't load any new firmware or restore the phone. Unlike most of the rest of the smart phones, you just can't open a battery port and just pop in a freshly charged battery to get the phone some power. You have to take the iPhone apart to do that, which is what I may end up doing. One of my Apple geek friends had me do something else and it does appear that I may be able to get some juice into the "Apple" without taking it apart.
Anyway, if anyone does think they have a battery drain issue, you need to address it before the problem goes to a new level.

That just threw a bucket of cold water on my brief involvement with the idea that I might get an IPhone next. I don't do low battery*. I have a fresh one on hand or a charger within close distance at all times.
*Or, notaries.

Re: Holy IMoley, Batman!
Brenda....I've had my iPhone on since about this time yesterday, it is now at 65%. I also have the extended battery which fits on the iPhone like a cover and that gives me 48 additional hours.
I think it's a bunch of apps up and running without being shut down. I have an internet radio app and a police scanner app that I know must be shut down or it will keep running. Also reducing the "brightest" will reduce battery charge greatly.
How many people actually read the operations manual when they first get something?
