Here's a different name scenario

Just left a signing. Borrower's name on confirmation was the same first and last name. For example, I'll use "John John". I chalked it up to TC error and thought I would see the correct name with the loan documents. Received the loan documents today, also had borrower's name as "John John". Went to the signing, borrower's license has "John" only. He has the new Calif DL which has a separate line for first and last names. "John" was on the last name line, first name left blank. He is from Indonesia, where it is common to have one name, so he says...

I completed the signing with the ID he provided....Any feedback?

P.S. I have been trying to figure out what g/b/u stands for..."Good, Bad or Ugly"...."Gone Belly Up"...am I close? Smile

Re: Good, Bad , Ugly

If the signatures matched and the picture on the drivers licence looked like the person in front of you, I think I would have proceeded with the signing.

Did you ask him for a passport or any other acceptable ID that might show John John?

Did he sign his DL with just one "JOHN"?

I can't believe the DMV would issue a DL with just one name on it.

I'm not saying you're are being untruthful. Anyway, I would have notified the hiring party of this and proceeded with their approval.

Re: Did he sign his DL with just one "JOHN"?

His signature was indecipherable, but it was just one "John", not two. He said it has been difficult for "America" to handle the fact that he has one name. His checking account (which was with the same company for the mortgage) has "NFN John" as his name on his account. His employer has "Mr. John" as his name on the W-9. And he said when he bought the house, the title was listed as "John John"....

Thanks for posting this..I found out something I didn't know

The Ca DMV says you must have a SSN for ID Verification when applying DL. However, if you are in the country legally but NOT eligible for SS you could use a birth certificate or legal presence Document to verify your ID.

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/dl/dl_info.htm#two500

So it is possible from what I've read. There is also info on each states requirement.

Re: Did he sign his DL with just one "JOHN"?

Indonesians often have only one name. Afghans often have only one name. Madonna has only one name. Prince has only one name, whether it be Prince or &%#@. Lassie had only one name. Flipper had only one name.

It is interesting to note that multiple spouses, sometimes serial rather than concurrent, often accompany single names, though in my case I have three names. I do not know how many mates Lassie or Flipper had.

Re: Did he sign his DL with just one "JOHN"?

I had a signing last year with a borrower that had the same name as I have. I called the SS and they were okay with everything as long as the ID was proper.

<<<Madonna has only one name. Prince has only one name,....>>>

Their stage names are Prince and Madonna. Their legal names are Prince Rogers Nelson and Madonna Louise Ciccone.
