Two Questions . . .
1. Scenario: it is dark out, you are on your way to a signing, the signing company has not provided a valid number to reach borrower, and you get lost. You stop to ask directions and are asked the name of the party you are looking for (as in they might know them). Is it okay to say the name or should it be held in confidence?
2. RE-FI Scenario: SOME of the docs had the "State of ___" and County of _____" typed in. SOME DID NOT (but it did have everything else, i.e. date, notary signature, etc.) Am I OK to have hand-PRINTED the state and county info on to the doc without using a loose certificate?
Thanks in advance.

!: It is OK to say the name - after all you are not giving the reason you are going to the address.
2: Of course it is Ok to hand print the venue on the notary certificate portion. The notary certificate is your domain But if it is an affidavit the venue may already be printed at the top of the doc.

I don't know why someone would need their name, unless it's a rural area without street addresses. But, if I'm lost and have no contact info for borrowers, I'd mention their last name but not the reason I'm there.
Am I OK to have hand-PRINTED the state and county info on to the doc without using a loose certificate?
I do it all the time, no problems so far.

Yes & Yes . . .
Only way I'm ever going to find anyplace around is by the person's name. In rural areas (and not just in Arkansas, thank-you-very-much), they know how to get home from anywhere, but haven't a clue what roads they drive on to do it. But they do know their neighbors and can give quite good 'left, right, turn by the 2-story white house' landmark-type directions. Heck, half the road signs are missing anyway.

Last name, no help
In my rural town, many residents share the same last name and most have nicknames. The best way to describe someone is to know what vehicle they drive. I don't accept signings if they're after the non-existent streetlights come on!

First, I wouldn't be driving to any location without being able to verify appointment with borrower, nor would I print any docs. Doesn't your State handbook give you the info concerning the venue on an ack. or jurat?
Yeah, I know, I'm going to get yelled at on the forum for being mean.

Making life easier for you ....

How did you confirm signing with borrower if you didn't have a valid phone number? Evidentally, you did not. If you had, the borrowers probably would have given you directions tips during the confirmation call. Was this one of those "do not call the borrowers, just show up" signings? If not, you should have got a working number from SS before you took off - just to make sure the borrowers would be there - and so you can call them when you get lost.

If it was "do not call the borrowers, just show up" signings
Why would you ever accept the assignment to begin with? If so, the minimum should be an agreement for 100% fee payment in case of any "crash & burn".

Just for future reference...
"it is dark out, you are on your way to a signing, the signing company has not provided a valid number to reach borrower,"
I wouldn't go. We're too rural here and it's too dark with some frontage of over an acre or two or three, together with dogs and other animals all over the place - if I can't touch base with borrowers and get exact location with landmarks and good directions, I don't go. To answer this on point, though, I would say the name simply because in so many areas (especially around me) the street numbers mean nothing to these people - they've just started with house numbers not all that long ago - names get you much farther - no need to state your business with them, just simply state the name.

Sylvia, thank you for the heads up about the venue being at top of doc!
Taxpro & and Lee, good advice to say just the borrower's last name.
Desktopfull & GOLDGIRL, I tried to reach borrower immediately after receiving the info from SS. I called the SS to say is not a good number and get back to me with a good one. They never did. I called them before leaving to appointment and was told to just go and call back if no one is home. I got lost and was 20 minute late but he borrower's were forgiving and felt bad I didn't have their new number and that I got lost. They had given their new # to the lender but it never made it to the paperwork.
Linda, The area is a bit rural and small town. I had turn-by-turn directions but they weren't accurate, WAY not accurate! When it's dark out, and porch lights are off, it is impossible to see addresses. Think I'm going to buy me a maglight flashlight to shine on house numbers. Plus may prevent a fall in the dark.
Thanks to all for such helpful info!!!!

My Maglight flashlight I consider to be one of my essential tools - and I always keep it within reach! Well worth the investment. (And I'm not in a rural area...)

Ditto Janet. After my second signing ever, after relating
a hard time reading house #s after dark, Dad presented me with a nice, giant-lighted flash light thing - which has proven handy as a shirt on a pocket for spotting house numbers, and signing at a campground picnic table "kitchen table" light.

Perhaps you should revise your profile and remove the word, "experienced". If I am driving along and want to get to Texas and I get lost, should I stop and ask someone how to get there but not tell them the State? This one definitely goes beyond!

Directions:
"You go down past where the old baptist church was and make a left. Follow that until you come to the alfalfa field and go right. Now that road has a couple of forks in it. At the one where Mrs Brenner's horse died last year, bear to the right and the house you're looking for is just over the hill."
BTW- didn't you see "Wrong Turn"?

Karla, You may want to invest in a tom tom. I have one and use it on every assignment. It takes me right to the house. Only once did it have me turn the wrong way on the indicated street, but was within a few hundred yards of their house.

Not sure what in the %^&* you are talking about. Were you there as to what I said when I asked directions? No you weren't. Don't be so flipping rude. I asked three different people for directions by giving them the borrowers address, THEY were the ones that asked for the name!!! If that's what you are referring to! Does it make you feel good to be snarly via the computer? I doubt that you'd say that remark to my face. Grow up.
So sorry to the rest of you that has to hear this. I'm fed up with nasty people.

Topflyt and Buddy . . .
Topflyt, I do not have a GPS yet.
Buddy, thanks for your suggestion regarding the Tom Tom.
My husband has cancer and we are drowning in doctor bills right now. Will hopefully get one soon.
Thanks everyone (almost everyone!) for your kind help and suggestions today.
