All Star Title
I arrived at a signing tonight and was advised to abort the signing that All Star Title Documents can no longer be notarized in the state of Washington.

Who advised you to stop? Which title company or SS hired you? What did the borrowers have to say? Just curious, but it really does not matter.

Re: All Star Title from Maryland??? must be a mistake
I live in Maryland and close loans on a regular basis for All Star from Baltimore. First class organization who always pay at funding. I have worked with them for 7 years. If you are referring to the same company there must be some kind of misunderstanding. I have a family member who is employed at the Maryland Insurance Administration and says they have never had any complaints against them. I am always very happy when I see their number pop up on my phone. Good pay and quick pay, very nice people who work there too. I love them.

Not a slam against you Pat...but that makes no
sense at all - title docs can't be notarized in WA?? Huh??..
I hope you took all the docs with you when you left...and plan to invoice them for print and travel.

Yes, I picked up all my marbles (documents) and left. Another notary was there signing and I was told that he was signing for American Bank and that All Star title could no longer be signed in Washington State as of noon today. I called the signing company that hired me and was told that was nonsense but to pack it all up and go home.

They must have lost their license to operate in Wa.

I think part of what baffles me is - didn't the title
company know this when they initially got the file?? Why take it all the way to closing if you can't complete the loan and have no authority to work in the state??
And another thing - where'd that other notary come from?
Something just seems off to me ..

I’ve heard that too! It seems that if Mercury is in retrograde, and Jupiter is not quite in the correct alignment (conjunction) with the other stars ( including 'all star') that it is illegal to notarize any documents in Washington State? Unless it’s done with a refundable plastic bottle? I wish someone would make this clear to the SOS, and to others trying to be in business for themselves in WA. It’s really very hard to remember all this stuff!

I am told this is all a big misunderstanding (mystery)

Re: Sounds like they lost the authority to do business in WA.
That’s what’s so confusing! Does that mean if I were a WA notary that I too would lose my State given authority to let’s say… notarize an affidavit? If it was in conjunction with documents prepared by them? (All Star) Am I now illegal as a WA commissioned notary because the stars, or that “all star” are now illegal? What happens if they come to other States? Are we all going to be illegal soon? This is so perplexing!!!

If you have knowledge that the docs of some company
aren't legal in your state, then you should lose your commission if you Notarize.
We don't know the facts.
Or maybe were you joking?

Re: If you have knowledge that the docs of some company
Joking? Not at all! Susan, I’m not a commissioned notary in WA as you are…so I can’t determine who may prepare “legal” documents as apparently you can. You know one learns something every day by reading these posts. I didn’t know that WA State licensed SS. That’s good to know! I wish every State would do something similar. Then maybe we wouldn’t have illegal aliens, non-citizens, convicted felons, child molesters, and there like… starting, or having their girl friends starting an LLC as a Signing Service. What a laugh! One can run a SS from prison…and WE extend them credit…without any proof of being legitimate or credit worthy. Then when they don’t pay us we cry……Glad to hear WA makes it illegal to notarize documents that could be used in conjunction with or by unlicensed businesses.

Les, I'm in Oregon, but that's beside the point. "Another
notary was there signing and I was told that he was signing for American Bank and that All Star title could no longer be signed in Washington State as of noon today."
My take on the post is that the TC is no longer able to do business in a state. If this is true, then any business conducted by that TC is not valid in that state, in this case, after a time certain.
If, on the other hand, the SS found a cheaper Notary to complete an assignment and made up some story, then it's a horse of a completely different color.
We don't know the facts, and I'd be interested to know the actual skinny.
(P.S. Your snark is uncalled for, Les, and your last sentence demonstrates a misunderstanding, inho.)

Apparently it's all much ado about nothing. The OP's
app't was given to another Notary from what I gather from Pat's update.
We're all still confused about the whole frufaw.

Re: Apparently it's all much ado about nothing. The OP's
Well, last week I did two loan application signings here in WA from All Star Title company in Baltimore, MD. I did not notarize anything, just got signatures on loan application docs and fedex'd back to a credit union. I was told I'd get both loan signings in about a month with All Star Title, inc. Any suggestions?

no story here.

Reply by All Star Title - Jason H. on 9/24/11 4:37pm Msg #398547
Hi everyone, my name is Jason, I'm the owner of All Star Title in Baltimore, MD. I wanted to take a minute to clear up this signing in Washington. We regularly conducted business in Washington state, but as of the date of this closing, we were informed by our underwriter that Washington state is no longer allowing dual agents to handle closings there (several other states have done this as well). To further clear things up, we are not and were never licensed in Washington state. We conducted business through our underwriter and other licensed agents located in Washington state (this is very common place with most title companies doing business in many states).
We were informed that effective of that date of this signing, only 1 company could be involved (the local agent), so essentially we could no longer do business in Washington. We informed our clients and they canceled any pending transactions with us. We neglected to see however, that we already had this signing scheduled in Washington that day and obviously the notary went out as we scheduled with them (Pat - this was you, right?). We forgot to cancel this, that was our oversight.
Anyway, because earlier in the day we informed our clients (one of which being American Bank), that we were no longer doing business in Washington state, they went ahead and sent this order to another title company, who in turn used a signing service or contracted with a notary, and thats who was at the house when you got there.
The issue is not with any new notary guidelines or us losing a license, its with Washington state no longer allowing "dual" closing protection letters.
We have always provided what we feel is fair service and very prompt payment to our closers. In our opinion, the notaries we select are a direct reflection of All Star Title and we want our notaries to feel respected and part of our team. I think our 5 star rating on this site is evidence of that.
Pat - I trust by now you have received payment for your services but if not, please feel free to contact me directly at 1-800-580-0677 and I'll make sure it gets taken care of ASAP.
