All Star Title

There has been a lot of confusion regarding the aborted signing I had yesterday. When we arrived at the signing there was another notary doing the signing. The lender was American Bank and we were told that the title company All Star Title was no longer authorized to have documents notarized in the state of Washington. This was confirmed by Scott at American Bank.
I left the signing and reported this to the signing service that hired me. I was told that there had been an error earlier in the day and it had been corrected. It appears that before the error was corrected another notary was hired.
This has never happened before and I am totally confused!

Seriously…Perhaps you can let us know what SS apparently hired you and a different notary to do the same job. Mistakes do happen but this kind of thing should NOT happen to any of us. If it did happen, you should still be paid IN FULL for the signing requested.
May I ask if you received a confirmation in writing from the SS?
Did you confirm with the SS and the borrower the time and place for the signing?
As you may know WA is a State that requires a title company to be licensed to do business within the State. The Escrow Officers must also be licensed, and the Title Company must maintain an escrow account within the State. All Star Title in Baltimore MD says that they are licensed in 50 States including WA, or did you mean ALL Star Title in Pikeville MD? Or All Star Title in Minnesota?
It is very difficult to give someone advise when they are not clear in what they post.
The WA notarial law would govern what must be done, and how a particular document would be notarized. Not The laws governing Title Company conduct.
I just re-read your post from yesterday and I still don’t understand what you meant to say or ask? Perhaps you can explain further? If let us say an affidavit was prepared by an attorney, or a title company, or an individual, or someone copied one from the internet, why could you, or could you not notarize the signature of someone signing that affidavit? I am not a WA commissioned notary, and I can’t say that I’m familiar with the WA notarial laws…but trust me on this you are not the only one confused by your post.

I believe this is a case where two ss were involved and two notaries were hired.

If that’s case YOU should not have to pay for their mistake. Ask for your full fee.
