Be careful out there

I just read a story about a notary signing agent that was pushed by an irrate borrower as he or she was walking out the door and, fell over a couple of steps.

One time I was looking for an address and, had my car (which was a convertible) attacked by a man that later on told the police that I was trying to run him over.

So, please be extra careful out there. I know that there have been times where I have been shown the door because of something that lender did.Like this person that was pushed down those stairs.

One time I was yelled to get out of their house because I refused to notarize his wife signature that was in a wheel chair and she had her D.L expired for like 15 years. He told me that there are more than 10 million people "like you" driving all over California driving without a D. L. LOL!!

I installed a camera with a digital recorder on my truck, last year. Whenever I travel somewhere, everything gets recorded on video with a digital time stamp. If some idiot tried to accuse me of running him over, I would have proof, otherwise and he would have ended up in jail for filing a false police report. Also, I'd have personally sued him and anybody else associated with him.

Another solution I've considered is buying a class B+ RV. I've seen some used models for sale at reasonable prices with decent fuel economy. They come standard with a table and seating, 3/4 bath, and sufficient space. If I owned one of these, I could control the signings. I would just pull up to the borrowers home, they would come out to my mobile office and we would complete the signing in a controlled environment. No dogs or kids to deal with. No foul odors. No un-flushed commodes to encounter. No sitting on the floor. With my roof-mounted solar panels, small generator and UPS back-up power supply & inverter, no problem running my multi-function printer/scanner/ copier/fax, laptop computer with air-card, cell-phone charger, etc.

In such a controlled environment, if there was any problem, I would kick the borrowers out of MY office. If they did give me any crap, I could rightly perceive that as an attempt at deception. I could then report their behavior along with my suspicions to their loan company and the title company in question. It IS my legal right to do so. With any luck, they would lose their loan AND not be able to get another one.

In the seven years that I have been an NSA, I've only experienced a few problems. Mostly, those problems occurred because the borrowers' loan officer lied to them about their interest rate and loan terms. I've only completed about 200 signings, so far. So, this profession isn't lucrative, by any means. My only real concern is that TC's/SS's will continue to knickel & dime us until the profession no longer pays enough to make it worthwhile, at all.

I now turn down more signings than I accept because I'm in this to make a profit for me, myself & I. If the TC/SS can make a profit on my work, fine. But, if not, then, that is THEIR problem. Fortunately, I have other businesses that enable me to compensate for the slow times. And, a mobile office would be useful for those businesses, as well. Just saying...
