Beserk Borrower
I get to a signing this week when I'm standing on my head and very tightly scheduled. Borrower asks me to meet him at his office, a huge Blue Chip stock company. I sign in and get a visitors badge. The receptionist is trying to page and call him, I let her know he called to say he was at the bank.
Meanwhile, his well intended EA comes out to tell me he's in China, and I say, no, I just spoke with him, he's on his way and we have an appt.
He comes sauntering in 30 minutes later wearing shorts and sandals, he's the VP of International Business Develpment, way more important than any one else on the planet, the docs are three inches high. He's on the phone discussing the pros and cons of Droid Vs. Iphone. My blood pressure is soaring. I finally say, "we'll have to reschedule, because I have another appt in 30 minutes, he's very late, and I'm pretty sure he's not ready to sign." He starts yelling that we have to sign, he's suffering sleep deprivation/jet lag and in a bad mood. MARVELOUS. Well, I get him signed in 15 minutes while he calls his loan officer to say the cash out is wrong, they are paying off his Audi and he doesn't want that. Rate lock expires Monday. All kinds of drama. My head was spinning. I still had 6 more appointments, it's like the domino effect, everyone is late for the rest of the day, I'll spend the day apologizing and explaining why I'm running late.
Don't you just love it, and he didn't go to the bank to get a cashier's check for the closing, just decided to go to the bank for cash. Crazy...it all worked out, I got these out in FEDEX same day....miracles happen every day.
I think every borrower thinks they are the only ones signing their docs that day! So gotta get out my cue card that says "You're no. 6 of 12 signings I have today, can you please make sure you can make the appt on time and have copies of your drivers license, do you have a dog in the yard, yada yada."

When borrowers are late (I only wait ten minutes before calling hiring party) I will only wait 15 mins. After that I'm gone unless the hiring party instructs me to wait (then I want additional compensation).
If the borrower does show up with some BS excuse, I politely tell them "I have never been late in 37 years." They usually look at me with that "what the hell is that supposed to mean?" look. It means, cut the BS and let's get the signing done period. I will NOT let someone make me late for another appointment.

Re: scary part to me is 3-inch high docs signed in 15 minutes
It's possible. We all have stories about the BO who wants to read everything, but I have also had BOs who say "I have 3 days to read them and cancel, just show me where to sign".

Cheryl, you truly could make yourself sick over this and no loan signing fee is worth this kind of stress. This guy showed blatant disregard for your time and disrespect for you by *sauntering in* when he got good and ready. To top it off, he's on the phone discussing droids and iphones?..........Such blatant disregard for the Notary warrants moving this guy's appointment to the back of the line. It's wiser to risk this ONE business relationship with the hiring party rather than jeopardize SIX other business relationships with other hiring parties because you were late the rest of the day.

Alz & MW, y'all are too nice.
I say the reason that those kind of folks act that way has nothing to do with insecurities, power, or money.
I know a lot of folks with lots of money and several with a good bit of power and they don't act like that.
People who act like that are rude @$$hole$ who were raised improperly. Those types...take them all out into dark parking lots and call Hector to come and teach them some manners. It works.
