Booking multiple notaries - a new trend?
I've noticed in the last few days several messages commenting that another notary showed up, or another notary had contacted the borrower. I personally had a situation where a signing service contacted me to complete a signing, but when I contacted the borrower, I was told that another notary had completed it that morning. My signing service contact commented that her hiring party must have hired someone else.
This seems to be a trend lately, where the original hiring party - either the lender or title company, may have personnel contacting whomever they can get to close their project, but the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. This is creating problems for notaries, but also for signing services. Am I the only one noticing this?
I'm not sure what can be done, but it seems to me that better coordination of efforts would alleviate many duplications, errors and consequences down the line.

This happens often in this business. A Title Company/Lender will often hire a (new/different/cheaper) Title company or SS while still giving ‘some’ business to their (we really love you, but it’s slow) old established company. directing part of their business to each (without their knowledge, called not burning bridges)They use the less expensive companies in the populated areas, for easy-to-book, plenty-of-time assignments, and the more expensive companies on the last minute, remote area, hard to book assignments. Sometimes they double book, when time gets short. The schedulers at an individual, particular SS or TC almost never double book. JMO

This happend to me today. I accepted an assignment last late for a closing to take place this evening. The appointment with the borrowers was confirmed and I was waiting on the documents. I then called the borrowers early afternoon to tell them I din't receive the documents yet and was told that the signing had already taken place late this morning. Go figure.

Last Friday I took a closing for Saturday afternoon. The SC wanted a low fee and I successfully negotiated a higher fee. They sent me a confirmation and I scheduled the closing. Before I could call the borrowers the SC called and said that the borrowers had arranged their own notary and they had to cancel me. I wonder how the borrowers notary got the documents since they did not go through the SC? I was had.
