Do NOT Work for CDS Signing Services
Jim Askins called me on May 4 to do a signing that day. He said that it was a ONE page document and would pay me $50. I agreed. It was a complete refiance packege. I did the signing, called him back and told him that I would not have agreed to do a complete loan signing for $50... He went on to tell me that he's getting payed $125 and could not stay in business if he payed more than $50 for a signing... He was very nasty and shadey. Bottom line is: I never even got paid. Do NOT Work for CDS Signing Services.

First of all when I saw it was a complete signing, I would have turned it down. He would have to had to find someone else to do his dirty work. Its people like his company that makes notaries want to.....well you know what I mean.

Why didn't you reject it when you realized it was not
what you had been told?
A situation like you described would be a deal breaker if it were me and I would turn it back because I would not think that I would get paid if they were that dishonest from the start.
I hope you do get paid. Good luck.

So he told you he had to make $75 for a loan package that you actually conducted, or not stay in business?
As the others have said, once it was obvious that it was not "one page", I would have called him back to decline his generous offer. I also send a confirmation of the confirmation from the hiring party which indicates that if the package I receive is not what was negotiated in the phone conversation, the fee would be increased or the job rejected.
Good luck on collections. Hopefully he won't stay in business.

5 Stars to ikando
<<<I also send a confirmation of the confirmation from the hiring party which indicates that if the package I receive is not what was negotiated in the phone conversation, the fee would be increased or the job rejected.>>>
BINGO!!! THAT is exactly how you put the hiring party on notice.....that their schemes and gimmicks will be dealt with.

Marcia, please put comments in Signing Central. The most recent entry there is not good, and is about 18 months old. Interested NPs might like to know that the situation has only gotten worse over time.......

Thanks for the input. I have been a member of Notary Rotary for several years now and have not been involved in this forum. It is really nice to have a voice, and support.

Why in the world did you do the whole signing if you only had a confirmation for a single doc?
I will wait for a new confirmation letter or is a no go.

Whenever a scheduler negotiates on the phone one type of assignment then emails you something different than what was discussed, call them back immediately and say, "Our agreement was for X for a fee of X. What I received via email is W and for a W assignment I charge W fee." If the scheduler is unwilling to meet your fee for a W assignment, then give the job back.
Even better - just respond to the confirmation with what Ikando wrote: ".......if the package I receive is not what was negotiated in the phone conversation, the fee would be increased or the job rejected."

Why didn't you call him back prior to? That's what I would have done. Have you done many signings? First thing I do, when I'm asked to do a signing, is ask what kind of signing it is (e.g. refi, reverse, etc.) this way I'll get an idea of what's involved. If you would have asked this question, you would have known it could not possibly be a one page document. Regardless, you should have called him to renegotiate the fee prior to doing the signing. Hope you get paid the $50 at least.

Their web site clearly says they only pay $50 per loan signing.
