Dual tray printers.....yes I searched first
I've always had HP4050's or 4100's (except for a brief stint with a Dell that frustrated me so much I literally dismanteled with my bare hands and threw out the window) and I think I'm willing to jump ship and try a brother dual tray printer. Yes, I have read some of the commentary on the Brother drum issues.
However, I am not finding one that holds 500 sheets.
Anyone have any recent purchases of either a Brother or HP that is a powerhorse? I'm talking a dedicated laser printer, not an all in one.

I have a Brother 5370DW dual tray and no it doesn't have a 500 sheet tray. I do have a HP2420, it's an oldie but goodie and does have 500 pg tray. Look on HP website. If I have to buy another printer it will be an HP not Brother again.

I have 2 Brother 5240 printers with the optional 2nd tray and both have worked well for me. Total capacity of both trays combined is over 500 pages.

HP Laserjet P3015 dual tray, both hold 500 pgs
12,000 pg toners at a cost of about $200 or so (give or take $25-50.) I bought mine with the dual tray. 40 ppm.
I love it.

Cheryl, what version of windows do you have?
I am leaning toward the 3015.
It seems my 4100 seems to have been exceedingly reliable until I moved to windows 7.
I'm hoping you have success using windows 7 with the 3015.

This is my very old laptop since my comp crashed...
around the week of the hurricane/earthquake/flooding here in NJ...I think it's XP. No problems thus far.
Since it's not an older model, (I don't think), I wouldn't think there would be problems. Am I wrong about that our techie friends?

You probably need to install new drivers & firmware for
Win7. That should be available on the HP website.

Love my old HP 4050
I bought two of these printers used, and have had them 9 years. They need a maintenance kit at 200,000 pages, but then they're like new. They have dual trays, and each tray holds 500 pages. They are fast and reliable. I hope they last until I retire. If I needed another one, I'd look for a used one online.

Loved my old HP 2430 - (be careful with aftermarket
toner cartridges - if the chips aren't tested, a bad one can ~fry~ the printer. LD Products uses tested chips.)

Julie~ I've only had my Brother HL-5370DWT (laser with 500 sheet) a few months but it has been great so far. Bought it on-line and picked it up at Staples locally. Good luck! Karla

I hymmed and hawed over printers when my old but trustworthy HP4100mfp took a turn for the worst. I bought a Brother 5370dwt (amazon <$250, received in 2 days) primarily because of the dual trays and it's just printer. I was a bit put off because of low capacity of the trays (250 sheets ea), however I wanted a reliable printer with a relatively small foot print. The wireless feature is a bonus. Setup was a snap, once I figured out that you either run wired or wireless not both. So far no complaints, except the paper tray capacity. Even that's because I'm used to having the larger trays, with my previous HP printers. I've gotten over it since purchasing 2 weeks ago. Then again I only get maybe 3-4 edocs a month. Not much worried about the drum issues (oem vs remanufactured; resetting; etc)

I recently purchased a refurnished HP 4200 which has dual trays holding 500 sheets each. It is quite fast, cartridge prints up to 6,000 sheets and I am very happy with it.

Re: Dual tray printers.....yes a HP3015dn about 4 yrs old
I have a HP3015dn that has a 500 sheet paper tray. I load that tray with a ream of legal, and the top tray which is a drop down tray I have loaded with letter. (holds about 100 in the top tray) I have it set to auto select by size, and it goes to each tray as needed. Works great.

Shelia, does your auto select work if you are printing both legal/letter from one pdf? I have yet to find a printer salesperson that knows how this works. I talked to a company today that said the lowest price machine they had that would do what he called "smart" printing along with scanning was $2500!
