Will someone else take this one? I can't. I'm going to be in the bathroom, about to step into a full bathtub while holding a plugged in toaster.

This is a good message number to start with. #33325 I took a good loan signing course also. I spend hours reading this message board and others. I know that most questions are answered on the forums, but it's also nice to connect and have someone to talk to.

If you are looking for help in the field...
you have come to the right place. If you are looking for ideas on what to do, you've come to the right place, but if you are looking for this site to start a business for you, that's not what we do. If you want "to get started with my small business" this site is where you will find the information to do that.
Synonym's for find is: discover, uncover, locate, hit upon, come across, stumble on, get, unearth
The Orange Button can help you with that endeavor. Good luck.
Also, I'm not sure what your intention is, but first thing before investing in the start-up costs of printers, toner, marketing, paper, etc, you should absolutely go to the "Find A Notary" tab, put in your zip code and see how many other already established notaries there are in your area.
Take it from those of us already in the field, this is not necessarily the best time to be getting into this business. If you plan on making a living, I assure you that that probably will be a miracle if it happens in, at the very least, the first year. It takes at least that to get even remotely established. You can't just join a company and expect to get work.
Have to go...bo's await my prestigious arrival....good luck again!

Re: If you are looking for help in the field...
I thank you for your honest and thoughtful reply. Any business endeavor is never easy without work and effort. I would like to use this site to my advantage and for resource purposes. My purpose for establishing my business is to help others & yes it would take a miracle to have a successful business up & running within a year, but MY FATHER specializes in miracles. Once again, thank you so much and abundant grace and blessings to you.

Since your sincerity is evident, I want to point out a few
features that will be of use to you.
Msg #33325 is a great place to start. Some of the thread is outdated, but you can recognize those messages easily enough I think.
The Orange Search button is a wonderful feature. If there is a question about this business it is probably searchable and been answered already. If you are looking for equipment, for example, search for printer and a plethora of messages will pop up - same for toner, should I change my own, how to save money printing, etc.
SC is Signing Central. SC is where we go to check out a company that calls us, first to find out if they are still in business doing what they set out to do properly. Some are falling in the economy and not performing up to par. We (notaries) post a report card of sorts, and we Link our posts so that all messages about ABC are in one spot and we can scan easily before asking questions that have been answered over and over. Also, in SC, we can click on links there to go directly to these companies and sign up to be in their databases if we like what we see on those "report cards". If we see there are problems, we can look at linked messages and see how recent and just what kind of problems that we may wish to just totally avoid.
We (notariesand people in general) don't like those who don't do their own homework and due diligence. So, sometimes, new people get a few snickers, snorts and foot-pawing stomps among other reactions. If you are serious, you will search some and if you come up short then ask stating "I searched about X and there wasn't much info, or the info I found was unclear,.....etc." Then we feel you are working it and feel much more like talking about it.
Lots here - enjoy the adventure.

Signing Central (one of the blue tabs at the top of the page) has a list of companies that hire Notary Signing Agents. If that is the business you plan on starting, the you should sign up with as many companies as you can. Avoid any companies that have 3 stars or less. Before signing up, do a search on this site for comments from others on the companies to see if that particular company is still in business or still paying promptly. In the last year or so many once very good companies have started paying less and taking longer to send out the checks. You might also do a search for the word Newbie or related subjects and read the comments on each conversation.

Also look out for the companies - and sadly, there are a good number of them - who prey on newbies. They are happy to offer you a start, but they have absolutely no intention of paying you, in spite of what they may say. I'm not going to start naming names here, but if you search companies first, like Doris suggested, you'll find them. You shouldn't have to get swindled to get started...

And if one should slip by your initial radar (you are away from your computer), take the job, look them up in SC and through Orange Search button, and if they don't pass the smell test, give the job back.
Don't operate under the false notion, "well, I took the job so I have to do it." No, you don't.
