I goofed
I did a refi signing the other day and after TC recieved the docs, the SS called me.
She said that the tops of some of the docs were cut off, account #s cut off etc. She said I would have to go back and have those pages resigned, and fed ex back today as they had to have the docs by tomorrow.
I was out of town and told her that it would be impossible for me to get home and do the resigning and get them to fed ex by the last pick up time which is 4:00 for me. It was 1:30 when I recieved the call. She said she would call another notary to do the job.
When I got home I had an email from her that said " since we had to send out another notary we are not going to pay you"
I did notice that the printing on some of the pages in the middle of the package were close to the top but didn't think anything of it. My printer has never done that before. So we not only have to do everything perfectly ( which I did ) but we also have to check every document to make sure it's printed correctly. ( which I didn't). I did go through the package after I printed to make sure my printer didn't print some garbled characters, which has happened before.
Lesson learned I guess.

Dont be so hard on yourself; I'm sure you'll be more careful next time

Most of us have gone thru that. Another reason to have a drop dead/cut-off time for receiving the Docs AND to negotiate for a print fee and a no sign fee.
From what you posted, I would say you are not entitled to a no sign fee, though you went out. Why? Because you didn't check the Docs for errors (You should have at least saw that when you did the signing). However, you did print the Docs out but even that is debatable since you could have spared that hassle by looking through them while on your computer.
Buddy, the real issue is, what are you going to do to eliminate this from happening again? I doubt you'll get paid. IMO

I agree with James on this one. I had that happen early on
before I fully understood the printer I was using. Regardless, it called for a re-draw & re-sign, so your efforts were worth -0-. That's why I never print & run. I always check all the docs to make sure everything printed correctly. BTW, I also stack the docs in a particular signing order. I've found that it's worth the extra time & makes for very smooth signings. Chalk it up to experience, apologize to the hiring party, and move on. :-)

When I see this on the docs, I print with the setting "Shrink to Printable Area", however you don't necessary want to do that on the DOT/Mortgage because you don't want to have that document rejected by the recorder's office because the font is too small.

Never happened to me, but at the signing table if I found a misprint or cutoff pages I stopped the signing and get corrected docs. In my case I don't print and run.

Some clerk and recorders are not only fussy about the font size, but also the margins. I had one last week that was scanned in in an odd size. I reprinted in all legal. I always check the docs before I go. It they are late, I simply put the signing back another 10 minutes. Better to go 10 minutes later than make another trip. JMO

Re: Choose "Fit to printable area"
Ia gree that you shouldn't be too hard on yourself. We all learn by our mistakes. I once had an entire package come through on my computer (and hence my printer) in 10 pt. font. They rejected the entire package, after it was signed. WA state allows 10 pt. font. I tried to increase font size and I couldn't. Since my state allowed it, I printed it the way it came to me.
