I'm accepting this lowball fee because.......
This is a low-ball offering to me, why” Logistics
Particulars - $50 for one signature plus ten dollars notary fee for acknowledgement.
Logistics: although it is only 7 miles from me it may take me one hour there, one hour back. Parking, 20 mins = $12.00 if it’s in the building, TBD.
It takes me out of the loop for two hours in the event I get another call for $XXX because that time is spoken for. Nobody cares but it is something we all do/have to go thru daily.
I’m going to do it because it’s San Francisco and I can purchase something that will make my wife happy because she knows I’ve been sitting on my A$$ for the last month.
It’s still a lowball no matter what the reason. IMO

I, too, have my reasons for accepting a particular one today that I might reject tomorrow. And they are all personal. Say I've been wanting to go to a certain shop, but have been putting it off due to the mileage/gas cost. Now along comes somebody who "offers to pay for my gas and leave me with enough left over to buy whatever". I call it the 'goodies factor'. Doesn't happen often, but when it does, I'm a happy camper.

It gets easier and easier to justify!
I should know! It always helps if there is something there to help sweeten the pot! I mean, if you want or need to go that way anyway, it's always helpful to be able to make a little money along the way. I wouldn't tell anyone though. You are brave and I am very practical and maybe a little bit of coward, too. LOL

So the means do justify the ends! LOL. My buddies are
very BRAVE. For me, the job would have to be a loan mod or seller docs under 20 pages, and less than 5 miles from my office.
My time is very limited, with trying to run a business, AND running around taking kids to school, school outings, (girls scouts..new this year!), etc., I just don't have time to take on these "wastin' time" gigs like SOME around here!!! LMAO! =)

I didn't say it was a good business decision
because it's not. It's just a 'personal reason' that sweetens the pot. Like needing letter size paper desperately and running into a BOGO. Sweet!

I've said it before, I'll say it again....if someone offers
me an I-9 at my convenience in a certain part of town for $25 I will take it so that it pays for my trip to see the latest, greatest kayak/camping equipment then lunch at a great little place. Can't beat going out on someone else's dime.
Alas, I have to go out and about tomorrow and no business to defray costs. But - I will still treat myself somehow. In about 12 hours it will be one year that I quit smoking and have not looked back. I gained some weight, food tastes wonderful, and I can BREATHE! My lung capacity has improved immensely and I highly recommend this to anyone on the cusp of quitting.

Re: Hope everything is error free!
I understand what you guys are saying, however, the problem with your scenarios are the chances you may have to go back. Keep in mind also the risk you take when it comes to liability with general notary work and loan docs. When it comes to loan docs, we are paid less and can have the biggest risk, which is why (at least in California) we have bonds and mucho insurance, something the companies leave out of the equation too often when it come to our fees. I don't particularly believe it is brave to post information of this type (as some one said...can't remember) in my opinion it is better to keep to yourself as it serves no purpose, except to encourage low balling and to further the attempts of companies reading these post to nickle and dime us....
Just to reiterate....I understand that some have good reasons....just don't understand why it is necessary to post. I see it as more harmful than helpful to what is constantly discussed...lower and lower fees!

Re: Hope everything is error free!
It wasn't necessary for you to post at all....Sixty dollars for one signature / one Doc is NOT a low-ball fee.

Re: Hope everything is error free!
Read my post again, James. As I mentioned what was the point of your post other than to appear to be trying to find or discuss some rationale for you (or others) taking $60 job offers? If it worked out for you, fine; however I maintain that it was better left off as you are only encouraging the "taking and offering" of low ball fees. Actually it appears "to me" that you did not feel good about taking it and posted for validation! Is it really necessary to post everything you do? I know this may come across as harsh, however, please realize that you are "Not" helping people who use this as a way to eek out a living and I am not including myself as this is "Not" my breadwinner. You come across as a very nice person and I am just trying to give you a different perspective. It's always interesting to me that some people (not necessarily including you )say they only do this part time, or they are retired, as a reason to accept low fees. I feel that it should be just the opposite, these are the individuals that should say "no" to ridiculous fees. I do; as I am in the position to easily say no and I use that blessing as a way to help my fellow notaries strive for decent fees!
