Who's on first?

Me: Hi, this is your friendly notary, calling to confirm your home loan signing Monday at 7 p.m. at your home, 123 Main St.
Borrower: Yes, that should be fine. But call before you get here to make sure we're home.
Me: Uhhh......well, you don't think you'll be there at 7 pm?
Borrower: We have a school function that ends at 6 so we should be home by then. But call just in case.
Me: Would you like to make it a little later then, like 7:30 or so?
Borrower: No, but call to make sure we're home. I'd hate to have you waiting for us if we're not here.
Me: Well, maybe you should call me if you think you won't be able to make it.
Borrower: No we'll be there, but I don't want you to have to wait for us.
Me: I don't want to have to wait for you, either, you idiot dunderhead. That's why we're making an appt. (I didn't really say that, but I felt like it).
It ended with me telling borrower I need to leave 45 minutes before the appt. time. so there would be no point calling to see if they're home. Geez!

Don't you know that the world revolves around them and their time is far more important than yours?

Sometimes I'll nicely suggest they contact their lender and schedule a more convenient date since this doesn't seem to fit in their schedule. (No sarcasm) This sort of gets their attention, something to do with the interest rate and time invested in the process.

Of course ... since I have two jobs, I have another way to pay my bills ...

I know the feeling!

My Monday refi stayed on the golf course for over an HOUR past our appt time.

Some people just don't get it.

Re: I know the feeling!

Sometimes I find that the time that is scheduled is literally crammed down the borrowers throats for them. They have no idea that its closing till the last min and they are told that we need to do this TODAY. They've got kids activities etc etc etc and all of a sudden they have to re-arrange their schedule.

I agree

I called to confirm a signing recently and was told they knew nothing about an appointment.... seems the closing was scheduled and arranged all without the borrower's knowledge. We closed but it was a bit ackward.... I could tell by the way they looked at me that they were wondering where I came from! Someone fell off the train of communication :p

Re: I agree

That has happened so many times in the past. Why can't the originator make one last phone call to go over the numbers, closing information and answer any last minute questions. It's not like they're not getting compensated for the closing..

Re: I agree

Boy, I think we all can relate to all of the posts. Just one more thing to add in that how many times have you told the people that you need them to make photo copies of their id's and have them for you when you arrive only to get there and suddenly when you ask for the copies they give you this big startled look and say "Oh, I forgot to do that". In an effort to reinforce the fact that we need them to make copies, I tell them they can put them on one piece of paper. Yup, you guessed it. When you get there not only do they go running around out to their trucks, in the garage, in old pants or pocketbooks and then when they finally find them they make copies amd come back with about 4 different pages each with a front or back view of the ID.

Many of us carry a portable copier or scanner with us.

It's come in handy many times so we can get a copy of their ID.

Re: I agree

I always ask if the scheduled time is convient for them. Often they say they could sign earlier or later, their flexable. I use this to help me manage my schedule, sometimes it allows me to fit another closing into my day.
