acknowledgment
A company calls me for an assignment. When the docs arrive to be printed; while looking thru them I find an extra acknowledgement. When I inquired about it, I was told that it must be filled out & gets used in case the mtg cannot be recorded which already has an acknowledgment. What would you do & where is written that this is a no no? Thanks for your input. Walter in NJ.

It depends on what your state allows. In calif I would question a request to send in a Ack but then again, I use the option field below (on my modified Acks) to show what the Ack is for. It could not be use for anything else.
If I don't fill in the "option field" you don't get it period!

No, no, no, no, no....
IMO, that's a big NO-NO in any state. That's an invitation for someone to take that acknowledgment and attach it to some other document that wasn't signed in front of you on the date included. It might be intended as a back-up in case of mistakes, but it can also be used for fraud. I recommend to NEVER complete a loose acknowledgment that isn't connected to a signed document. It's just poor procedure. I don't care what my client requests, that's not going to happen!

Re: 10,000 Notarizations ?
At least he’s worked for some outstanding companies, and is an esteemed member of the NNA. He lives in an odd place so maybe he gets lots of work? As for his question? I’ll leave that to the NJ notaries to answer. NJ is a funny place, very industrialized and urban, while being agriculturally driven and remote. They still have Freeholders, Justices of the Peace, Magistrates and Notaries Public. Toms River is different too, not the Jersey Shore but close. JMO from Colorado.

Re: 10,000 Notarizations ?
This is a question asked in the notary association here. I think it's meant more for the newbies or for anyone unsure of the basics. Probably should have another tab for educational scenarios so as to not confuse people or have them question your knowledge, as I know you are well educated in this business

Re: 10,000 Notarizations ?
If I do 1000 loan packages and each has 10 notarizations, what does that equal?

I never comply with that request for an "extra" ack.
Just tell them it's illegal for you to complete an ack that isn't attached to a document.

I take it out of the package and discard. I don't even send it back blank.

Re: acknowledgment...I complete an ack.
when there is a document that I am to notarize. If there isn't a document that requires notarization, I don't copmplete an acknowledgment. I have never sent an extra completed acknowledgment back. It can lead to a multitude of fradulent activities.

Re: acknowledgment...I complete an ack.
Thank you for all the answers. The blank ack will NOT be filled out or sent back.

Hi Walt...
I think I know what company you may be referring to. I would never send a blank notarized ack.
I have no problem sending it back blank.
