Disruptive Signings
Had 2 closings today, Both with Very Disruptive Children Pulling on docs and trying to write all over them. Both Clients were from the Bank that were the Title Companies clients. I was very patient and did not say anything. Just hoped for the best and finally got through them. At what point or is there a time I should say anything? I never do becuse I do not want to be Rude. But this makes it hard to do our job.

I recently had a realtor bring her toddler granddaughter to the closing as she was "babysitting". How unprofessional. And the toddler wanted to play with my commission stamp. I just told her "no, no." The realtor then gave her a sheet of paper and pen to draw pictures to keep her busy.

I can deal with that sort of stuff- but a few weeks ago I had a nightmare disruptor. The lady had a 5 yr old--she kept getting up to attend to him during the signing: got up and fixed him a microwave pizza(I was thinking-Hey lady! I have my own kids to feed! Sit down!!!!), got the ipad out and found him a game, turned the tv on to find him some cartoons, he peed in his pants right in front of me-so she had to clean that up-he was screaming-she tried to quiet him--during all the commotion she took my nice pen into another room and left it and returned (without me seeing) with a black pen-which I didn't catch for a few pages- She managed to sign her own name incorrectly 5x and even though I give very thorough instructions on how to sign the RTC she signed in both places. Its so rude to not have your children occupied when doing something like this, but if you say something it will just add to the crazy. I wrote a detailed note to the title company, but I also understand when dealing with the public you will come across people like this. I keep crayons in my purse and let them draw on their parents docs if they want to sit at the table.

I usually keep caryons and coloring books with me. Figures I always get these type of signings when I am out of them. I guess I should order more.

One of my solutions:
I went to my water management page online and downloaded coloring books, posters to color sheets, etc. and use those for the kids. Hopefully they get to discuss these issues with their parents after I leave. There are wildlife sites with coloring materials as well - "What do you kids want to learn about today?"

Re: One of my solutions:
Excellent idea ! My local botanical makes such pages available - I hadn't thought about making use of them for signings, though.
Check this one out, too. I discovered a button on my printer (after I'd had it a couple years) that said "Quick Forms". When I checked it out, I found not only pre-made coloring and game pages, but also configurable calendars! Also had notebook, graph and music pages, plus various to-do lists.
My father, who owned an appliance store, always told me 'The customer isn't always right, but he's always the customer'. The same applies to our business. I'm going to start carrying some kiddie supplies with me.
Thanks for sharing !

Re: One of my solutions:
I've given children (with parents permission) a blank sheet of paper and the fingerprint ink pad to play with. They love it.

I bring a roll of duct tape to all signings. Works like a charm!

Re: Ha ha ha Clem lol :)
I carry small pads of paper and a few crayons and hand them to the disrutpive kids..If the parents dont try to control them I do..Works like a charm for a few minutes. I also have a few stamps with ink pads too..Cheap stuff!
