First loan signing-Invoice?
Is it customary to invoice the signing company for the agreed amount or is it an automatic function (on their end) once the signing process is completed.

Each company has their own individual procedures
Best to check with your hiring party as to what they want.

Re: Each company has their own individual procedures
I only work for one that requires me to email them an invoice, all the others require that I change the status of the signing to completed on their website or email them when the signing has been completed and they handle the invoicing internally.
If the emailed confirmation that you receive after accepting a signing doesn't say to send an invoice, or not to send an invoice but rather do x, then call them, or reply to their email and ask.

I always send an invoice
Granted, many clients have their own protocol and I do follow their protocol - but I also have my own protocol and I follow that as well. I'm not putting my faith in anyone but my own little self, and e-mailing my invoice accomplishes several things:
1. My invoices have all the information I'd ever need to track down a file or client, and all they ever need in order to pay me. To me, it's a bit of a subversive message about how I operate - and one I want to get across! If they chose to pitch it, no problem - I know it was sent.
2. I *almost never have payment issues - perhaps invoicing is part of that good luck, although watching who I work for is probably the larger part of that. *I don't remember the last time, maybe last year - still, it's rare for me.
Having read tons about collecting payments when I first started, the common tips (in self-employed forums & source-sites) were to do & send detailed invoices, to be gracious in first reminders, and to never let an invoice collect dust.

Which type of invoicing software do you use or did you create it in Word the way I did. I find it doesn't seem to be very efficient doing it the way I am using Word.

As Renee, I always send detailed invoice. Helps with my record-keeping as well as theirs. I use QuickBooks.

Re: I always send an invoice
Lucky/CA, I use an invoice that I downloaded from Microsoft.com when I first started in business. I use the "Invoice That Calculates", but there are several templates to choose from. Here is the web address: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/results.aspx?qu=invoices.

Re: I always send an invoice
I always send an invoice...have had minimal problems collecting, but part of that may be due to my due diligence of using Signing Central (Thanks, Harry!). On the few occasions I've run into difficulty with payment, it's so much easier to point back to YOUR invoice number with all the information you need to trace it. Also easier for you to keep track of who owes you if you have a good system in place. I use QuickBooks Pro, but started with QB Simple Start (it was free at the time, not sure if it is now--limited in what it can do, but it worked for a short time for me).
