Getting Started

Usually, when a person wants to make something happen he or she will think, "Here I am at Point A...I need to get over there to Point B. What will it take to get there?"

Suppose Point A is California and Point B is Texas.

It would be nice if you could leave Ca. for Tx. and be there in 30 minutes. However, it takes
-Money
-Time
-Vehicle or mode of transportation
-Perhaps reservations
-Phone numbers and/or Internet access
-Willingness to focus on how/when/where you are going to get to Texas
-Map and knowledge of roads from A to B, or how to navigate an airport or bus terminal and find the right one to get one.

You do these things without even thinking of it. It is familiar...starting a business takes almost the same kinds of things but you will have to think about your trip and learn new things.

Sit down with some way to draw or write and put down POINT A (where you are now) and POINT B (where you plan to go). Make a very detailed plan of how you will get from A to B.

With the unlimited knowledge that is on the 'net, you should probably spend five hours a day every single day when you are not working to find resources on things like
-Notary signing work
-Notary laws
-How to start a business
-How to market a business
-How much money you need
-How much to charge
-Getting from Point A to Point B

All the grumpy old notaries who are so crabby on this website have nearly gone cross-eyed reading NR from "cover to cover" and writing a ton of wisdom about their trials and successes.

Use the Orange Search button...You'll get lots of experienced advice. The Cliff Notes version that you get in a couple of posts will not give you the depth that you will find reliable.

Happy travels!

Or you could just go out on the nearest road (internet) and start hitch-hiking, and hope someone (notary site) going to Texas picks you up (tells you what to do)

Brenda..You are right on! I spent hours every day for months learning then signing up with hiring companies..

When I started signing up it took 6 weeks before I received my first call for a signing..I was beside myself with happiness...And I am still happy!

There is a lot of knowledge to be had but we have all take the steps that are needed to achieve! Nothing comes over night!

Please read Brenda's post. Another analogy I've seen here is this: someone wants to open a restaurant. Can you imagine that person going to the popular bistro up the street and asking for their recipes, suppliers, how much to charge, how much is typical overhead, who are my target customers and how should I market to them, etc? You'd be out the door with a footprint on your rear.
