Notary Direct implementing pay caps
Effective 4/15/12 Notary Direct (based in Huntington Beach CA) will be implementing a pay cap for their notaries, and it basically amounts to $75 a signing ($50/signing +$25/edocs). Yes, the company says you can decline to accept the pay caps and tell them what your fee is for "local areas", and they will input that fee in their system; but they also say that unless you agree to their rates you will not be considered "preferred" in their system and may not be the first notary to get the calls for work.

This is public info on the web about companies and their incomes.

I am also a member of Manta, and the information provided can be misleading. My company info shows "less than $500,000 per year." In my case, it's MUCH less. I don't have any idea what Notary Direct's true gross income is, but I think this information should be taken into account.
I am not trying to defend the low fee being offered, as I would not consider it either. But I think fair is fair, and not all information on the internet is the truth.

That's interesting. They were only offering $65 for a refi
in my area. I quote them my fee and they usually make the adjustment. I wouldn't say I jump for joy when the phone rings and their number shows up. Even so, I'll give them credit for always paying in a timely manner.

Regardless of 'their' pay cap, they either pay me what I want or find another notary--which, imo, simply puts the competition oob quicker. Works for me! FWIW, I can see a newbie appear in my area, the ND calls go away for a while (no loss), the newb disappears and ND is back to calling & paying me.

Never worked for them, but after reading their reviews on here, I am surprised so many of you have! That almost sounds as bad on SOX (Sign on the X). Looks like they never pay, return calls and lowball their prices. Why do you care if they cap prices? They should be boycotted all together for how they operate.

I think you're confusing Notary Direct with Nations Direct
I used to do quite a bit of work with Notary Direct - their fees weren't great, but the packages were small so you didn't spend a lot of time at the table, all the jobs were local to me, and most of the time the docs were sent directly to the BO. It made sense for me at the time, and they paid on a regular schedule, but I have not been doing loan signings in a while so that situation may have changed. It's unfortunate to see that they're capping their fees, but everyone has to do what they have to do to stay in business. Just from the comments here, it seems like they'll pretty much be dealing with rookies in the foreseeable future, but it's a business decision on their part...
Nations Direct, however, was always a PITA to deal with. I got both them and SOX when I was new and stupid, but quickly learned not to deal with either.

The last time I worked for ND was about 6 years ago & I was fairly new at NSA work. I was paid $80 for a piggy-back edoc loan &, within the documents, was an invoice to the title company for $380-- for the loan (this invoice was not intended for me). I would guess that they are as fair to notaries today as they were back then.

Told them I will not do a closing for $70 and not to call me if they cannot pay me the fee I get from other companies.
