Now if we could just see a list of states with the most competent notaries. Texas certainly would not top that list.

Louisiana has the most difficult test, but also vastly greater authority. My guess is that Louisiana notaries are more competent at basic tasks like acknowledgements, but I won't hazard a guess at how good they are with their more difficult duties, like drafting legal documents.

Well I know my area has at least 1 incompetent notary. I have gotten a few calls where I was asked to do a signing and comes to find out a notary had already did the signing, I was just there re-doing it. I was glad I got the job, but at the same time, I felt bad for the company for having to pay twice. And they were not low ball companies either. But on the bright side, I picked up a few companies that way. And I know 2 of the ones I went to re-do, Involved the same notary. I only know that because the borrowers told me who it was.

result of the first notary's incompetence, that notary probably didn't get paid; so company only paid one signing fee....

I feel more for the borrowers - who MAY have ended up with a redraw fee - unless title absorbed that cost too - then I feel bad for title - but maybe they'll be more careful in the future about who they hire.

Lol, Ok that was officially the biggest blonde moment I have had in a while. I wasn't even thinking that the notary didn't get paid. Probably because I haven't had any errors yet, (knock on wood). But wow, still a blonde moment.

I would just hope this notary hasn't had too many

opportunities to blunder too many other loans..

Man if you heard the stories of her. She has also cancelled alot of times at last minute. Pretty soon she is going to run out of companies that call her. Except maybe the non paying ones, because they won't care.

I will agree there are a lot of notaries here in TX, but the problem is that most of them (in my area anyway)are bail bondsmen, 'in-house' notaries that don't advertise and only notarize for thier customers or they aren't mobile. There does seem to be a LOT of work in my area, good for me!
