Who"s really telling the truth?

Hello:
Just got a call from a signing agency who I have done work for in the past. They have dropped their fee, and when I said sorry I am unable to accept work for the price you are offering. I was then given an ear full and told that he has "30 other LTP, notaries all over in my area who would except that price". I read allot of post of people in our business trying to "make a prifit", and not getting paid, and gass prices almost 4.00 dollars a gallon. So my point is who's talking out of both sides of their mouth?

I don't know who they are finding for a low price of $90 and below, but someone is doing it in my area. It must be those people who use the office at their employer for printing and paper. I carry my own Surety Bond(very expensive) and have my title producer license. My expenses are too high to work for such low fee.s It does explain why instructions from title companies and signing services are telling closers "do not sign or initial every page in docs; do not cut pages off by printing incorrectly. This indicate that they are hiring inexperienced closers.

Alice, I think you are right when you say "they are hiring inexperienced closers." I got a friend at a title co. that sends me about 40 signings a year. The co. is in Cal. and thru the years we have talked a lot. She sent me one last week and when I got it there were 3 pages of instructions for the Notary!!!! I had to call her and ask why? She said that I should see some of the packages they get back from all over the country. Missed notary stamps, missing names and the best one was they got back the BO'S set of docs. ( Everything printed on letter size, printed on both sides and nobody signed anything.

If they already had "30 other LTP" on their list in your area that would accept the lower fee then why were they calling you if your fee is higher???

You asked "who's talking out of both sides of their mouth?"
If I had to guess .... probably the one who has gone through his list of "30" other people who are probably also increasing their fees and no longer willing to accept his lower offer. Just as guess on my part. Wink

Oh, my I wish our post had spell check, how did I spell gass????
"I know this makes me look bad, hopefully everyone has a sense of hummmor"
As long as being a LTP dos'nt require a spelling test, I should be ok ,,,"smiles"

Received a mass-mailer last week. One person responded by clicking the reply-all option:

<<In addition to being a notary, I am a licensed title agent.

Holmes & Washington County - $55.00 + $15.00 for edocs
Jackson, Walton and Bay County - $65 + 15.00 for edocs>>

Low-ballers are crazily in love with that person!

There's nor reason to even debate it with him - the only response you should have when they feed you the "I've got xx other notaries in your area..." line is very simple: "If that's true, why are you calling me?"

Neither…the scheduler is lying (part of his job)…and some in your area that say they don’t (publicly but DO privately) take the low paying offers.

The ever so convincing title/signing company. Anyone on this board is a professional and wouldn't think of selling them selves short. We don't work for free.

My response would be, "Then call one of them...why are you calling me?"

Can I just ask?

Are they giving a reason for dropping their fees or why you should drop your fees? This makes no sense to me. The other day I was reading of a company albeit a wonderful company to work with as I understood who want their loyal notaries to work for peanuts so they could stay in afloat. And the carrot for the notary was what? When a corporation does that... there is usually benefit at the end. Which is fair. I don't get it. We are all nice. So in the future when you fall on hard times call on signing and title companies that love you and tell them for a time you will need double your fee until you catch up. Seems like the right thing to do. They will surely understand.

Perfect response, I'd like to be the fly on the wall on the other end of the line.

At the end of the day what does it really matter? Your time would be better spent looking for new and better clients than it is wondering who is talking about both sides of their mouth?
