It takes at least a year to build a business, sometimes longer if you are not aggressive.

sign up with all the good signing services listed here in not rot.

You need to be listed on more than two sites

also get out there and get your business cards out to local businesses and professional offices; as Buddy said, run through the list of companies in SC and sign up with as many as you can - if you're going to do loan signings, contact title companies; if you prefer to stick to general notary work only, concentrate on those companies that cater to that area....honestly, I'd just sign up with as many 3-5 star companies as possible. Do local advertising.

Have a detailed, complete and comprehensive profile outlining your strengths - you want to convince companies why they should hire YOU.

Set up a good website.

Read Msg #33325 - some of the information is outdated but the basic bare-bones info is still good.

Mileage? Your call - how much does it cost you to travel? Also, what is your time worth? Cost to print? wear and tear? cell phone charges? Long distance charges? And don't forget federal (and state, if applicable) taxes on your income!! Keep in mind your bottom line should be a profit for you - not a loss.

Good luck.

Dig your heals in! Study this forum for marketing ideas, and analyze your territory and competition. Right now we have low interest rates and some areas are very busy. To get on the raceway, you've got to build a profile that will make someone want to engage you!

This career is not a cake walk. Be prepared to learn to earn appropriate fees and scope of work. You'll get conned by the low pay no pay companies that continue to be predators on this community's members as the new girl on the block.

Get ready to sell yourself! Your phone will not ring if you don't step out of the box. Be extraordinary, and be EXCELLENT.

Darla,
First' link your profile.
Secondly, things are slow now and it is not a good time to enter this business.
You need to figure what your business planis need to make a profit. I currently havef ees of $75 for closing, $35 for printing e-dosc, $35 for each 50 miles I need to drive round trip plus extras for large packages (125 pgs +) faxbacks etc.
I live in Weatherfford, 30 miles west of Ft Worth on I-20.

Hi A S Johnson,

What does linking your profile mean? I can't find any info about it here.

Thanks,

L.

When you are writing a message, you will see to the right of your name a box that says: Add link to my profile. IF you check that box, then people will be able to click on your name and it will go straight to your profile - your advertising page.
