UPS lost my package
I had a signing this past Monday and I dropped the package for Tuesday delivery. Early Thursday title called me asking if this signing has been completed because the package was not tracking.
Shoot I went over to UPS website and it wasn't in their system, I called the store where I dropped the package and there was no package of mine there.
I called UPS and there was nothing they could do.
Early this morning I went to UPS website to see if there was any news about my package and it was there just delivered this morning! No record of when it was picked/shipped nothing! just that it was delivered today.
All week to deliver my package What's wrong with this UPS?

That happened to one of my packages at month end via OnTrac
No receipt since I dropped it at a box. Who has time to gather receipts for every package they drop? Not trying to be condescending, but seriously, that would be a complete waste of my time for the one package in the last eight years (this ontrac one) that went missing.

It's my guess that the UPS driver didn't empty the drop box for a few days, new driver? got lazy?

I respectfully understand where you are coming from. Every body have different concepts in the manner for which they handle issues, however, in reply to your question; I've been doing this for 7 years. It can be the beginning of the month, middle of the month or EOM, I have never, and will never drop a signed loan package in anybodies drop box. I take that extra 5 minutes to walk it in and get a receipt for tracking purposes, prevents 1 or 2 days of stressing due to not having any proof at all. After confirmed delivery then I toss.

Some areas, like mine, do not have a UPS store and the local
pack and ship places do not give receipts. Closest UPS store to me would be a minimum 30 minute round trip (longer in rush hour). I drop at the pack and ship with a live person, but I do use a drop box if that's the closest UPS to the signing location and it's near the pickup deadline. Better to get those docs out same day if possible.

I also do the same. I drop Fed Ex at the Fed Ex office and UPS at the UPS office. I get all reciepts, but both offices are 5 mins from my house.

That happened to me once, also. Pkg. didn't show up &
couldn't track it. It was delivered a couple of days later. I'm guessing some driver picked it up & never scanned it in, had the weekend or holiday off, and sent it through later. If they don't scan it, I figure no one can trace it back to them. hmmmmmmmm BTW, I've never had any issues with Fedex.

I had a purchase that was a drop dead date for a Monday. I sent the package on a Saturday pick up. It was to go from Santa Barbara to San Diego. Title called me on Tuesday and started to read me the riot act...This is too late! Explain to me blah. You blah, why blah, how come blah, What were you thinking? You have to have read the instructions.... Blah ,blah, blah!!!! As they were talking I punched in the tracking # and found out it went from my drop to the airport, from the airport to Chicago, where they must have guessed it was wrong, then to SD... a day late, (but at 7:00 am., not priority time). After the lady on the phone was done telling me off and what could happen to me I told her to check her Email, as I had sent a copy of my air bill, and the print out from the tracking report, something she should have done before calling me. She felt about an inch tall. Why these folks always wait until drop dead time I will never know! Just do you job and life is good!!!

If there is a UPS (UPS Store, Staples, etc.) or FEDEX (Office Max, Kinkos, etc.) drop location (not a box), use their services and get a receipt. It takes extra time but it provides you another level of security/comfort.
Typically, I email and send a scanned copy of the receipt to the contact person telling them the job was completed. As someone else mentioned, I also discard the paper receipt once the package gets delivered, but I keep the scanned copy in my (computer) files for that job.
Drop boxes should be your last resort.

I always drop off docs at a staffed FedEx or UPS Store and get a receipt. I keep the receipt in my receipt records. I monitor the tracking status online until delivery and then record the delivery date and time in my records.
Here's a neat website that shows a US map, tracking the location of your shipment as it travels to the destination: http://www.packagemapping.com/

Personally, I HATE UPS...I have had problems like this, and so have some of my personal notary clients. They lose things regardless of the tracking number that they are suppose to scan at every avenue...
