Laser Printer

Does anyone here have a dual paper laser printer? I am having a hard time finding one, I read on another forum that there is a program that I can subscribe to that will separate the legal size documents from the letter size document, is that such a thing or is someone making this up?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Anne

Don't visit here very often, do you, Anne?

search dual tray, then search Page Separator.

Not that much, why, did I do something wrong by asking a question??

Resident grump here

The subject of printers, and dual tray printers, is a frequently recurring subject on NotRot.

You will find that some of those who have dual tray printers believe that when the Almighty sends out his edicts, he prints them only on dual tray printers. Others, myself included, have used single tray printers for years, printing on all legal, with nary a burp from their clients. Some, again myself included, have invested in Page Separator.

You will find that PS is an inexpensive alternative to dual tray hardware. It has one advantage over the dual tray printer: It will divide a mixed file into separate letter and legal files; dual tray printers only separate the final output, not the computer file.

As noted by another poster, if you elect to use PS, buy the middle-priced version. It will meet all your needs. And the PS people are most helpful.

Re: Page Separator Software...

but I don't use it. I have a dual tray brother HL 61800DW which I love as it holds a complete ream of paper in each tray and prints 45ppm, but others on here don't tend to like brothers. Do a search with the orange button for the software and laser printers. Hopefully search works better for you than it does me.

Re: I use Page Separator and I like it. I wanted a

multi function printer especially scanning so I went with a single drawer and this soft ware, it works fine. You can google it. I got the middle grade because I don't have time to try and put the file back in the original order since I've already separated the legal and letter sizes. I have not received any complaints yet. Hope this helps.

Putting pages back in Order

I bought the pro version to put the pages in order. Its takes me every bit of 2 minutes to put a 100 page package back in order using the print out.
To me it just looks better. true you may never hear a word, but who knows the processor who doesn't have the same page map you do may not appreciate the fact they have to re stack the loan. Sometimes it only takes the smallest inconvenience to keep them from calling you next time. Not that I'm paranoid about that, but why put that factor into something that would only take 2 to 3 minutes at most to do. JMHO

I'm just as busy as the next guy, but I always find the time. Again JMHO

Re: Putting pages back in Order

"but who knows the processor who doesn't have the same page map you do may not appreciate the fact they have to re stack the loan."

I don't know about you, but my experience has been (and others will agree) that in most cases they really don't care how the loan papers are stacked. The stacking order you get is often random; putting the docs back into that random order just seems like unnecessary extra work to me.

I routinely stacked the documents into my standard presentation order - HUD-1 first, followed by TIL, RTC, note, and mortgage. If the signing was going to go south, one of those documents was where it was going to happen. The package always went back the way I stacked it, and I never had a complaint.

And if they wanted me to pull documents for a fax-back, all bets were off. I was NOT going to try to reassemble a package after something like that. Those documents went on top of the package being sent back. Again, never got a complaint.

There may be some anal-retentive companies that want the package back in the exact order they sent it to you, but it's not common. I think if you actually clocked it, it takes more than 2-3 minutes to sort this stuff back into the order you received it. If you extrapolate that out to 50 or 100 signings, that's a lot of time you're not being paid to do something you probably don't need to do.

What printer do you have? I know for a fact that most of the Brother printers will allow you to assign the multi-purpose tray (the one intended for envelopes) as a second tray, so you can have the main tray as letter size and the MP as legal, or vice versa. Not sure if others will let you do that.

Alternatively, you can just print everything on legal sized paper.

There IS a program that lets you separate the two sizes, but I'm not sure it's worth the money.

I am using my first from tonerpirate but it seems to be ok. So far they have the best price that I have found. Many of the usual toner vendors are not yet stocking toner for the 6180. I had to quit using LD a long time ago.
