Notary accepting money from BO?

Upon completion of a signing, Mrs. BO jumps up and grabs her checkbook. She asks how much she owes me.

I explain that I will be taken care of through the transaction and she does not pay me directly. I refer her to the HUD which identifies my fee.

She tells me that she has re-fi'd several times and the notary always requests payment. I ask her if, in those scenarios, she has personally arranged the signing directly with the notary and she says no, the lender always arranges it just as they did this time.

???? Baffled. I feel like these people may have been taken for a ride from a double-dipping notary.

Anyone aware of borrowers ever paying direct?

There have been times in the past when the docs were sent to the borrowers and they had to get their own notary. I think Wells used to do that.

It could be like Shoshana said.

I had one where I got up after the signing walking towards the door. The borrower(male) and, scared the heck out of me ,had gone around the kitchen and came out with money in his hand. I said no no no.

My x son in law had a notary from the currency exchange come to his home which is 5 minutes away. He paid her with a handful of gold coins and she took it! I told him he was crazy!!!!

I had a signing request from Mortgagedocs.com via email for $50, I responded saying that was a "paltry" fee. No thanks. Called back and agreed to $95...we'll see if I get paid!

When I arrived at the client's home, she said that title asked her to find her own notary, and she flatly refused to do so. She was unwilling to take the risk of filling out the Sellers SFTB and IRS reporting forms incorrectly. Hence, the higher fee to notary was agreed to.
