Printer end of life-Brother HL5370DWT HELP!
I printed out my printer settings on my HL 5370DWT and I had to google many of the terminology and meanings of the settings. So according to my printout, Ive printed 92270 pages (bought printer in Feb 2012), Laser and fuser is low and will soon be needing replacement. So I googled a fuser replacement and its about $120 and then I need to hire a tech to install it. No clue on the laser replacement. The brother manual is of no help on this.
So does this mean I need to go out and buy a new printer? What happens when my printer reaches 100K pages? What happens if the laser isnt replaced...what does it mean for my printer?
I was in the market for a printer anyways to go mobile but now Im possibly looking for two printers vs one. Anyone else reach the life end of a Brother printer?

In my opinion the HP laserjets are real workhorses. In my 10+ years of being a signing agent I have only used two printers: my HP 3130 and my 1320. Sounds like you should consider an HP. No major maintenance on those either.

Im a huge fan of Brother printers. This is the first one where I actually paid attention to the settings. Also my first one of a dual tray feature.
I looked into HP and the ones many on here tout but the low ppm turns me off. At 22 ppm is a bit slow for me. Even though my brother isnt much faster at .Im actually looking at the upgrade version where it prints 50ppm.
Also I find that HP toner is more expensive on the 2ndary market. I can buy 5 cartridges of brother toners for $99 total and free shipping. I buy in bulk every 6 months.

If your printer is not giving you problem(s) and you're just going by the counters on the settings, you may want to try resetting the counters. See the link below for the fuser and using the same website do a search for the laser:

I used a Brother MFC 8220 for 6 years without problem ... until the very end when it konked out. It was a REAL workhorse. Now, I have a Brother MFC 8890DWT and have been postponing getting my 2nd printer (bad idea putting it off). I was looking at the 5370DWT as it uses the same toner cartridge as my 8890. However, from what I can gather, the 5370 is now discontinued. So, I'm shopping around again.
Good luck to you.

Yes Im going by the counters. There are no issues with the printer. It is working fine but these questions I have because Im trying to avoid a catastrophe if the printer happen to conk out in mid print job. There is no message currently other than my drum is close to needing replaced.
Yes, the 5370 is discontinued but you can still get it on sites such as amazon etc. I plan to keep my current printer and eventually just get a new fuser and laser at a later date. I bought it refurbed to begin with. So Im just wondering how serious are these settings and Ive searched for a laser part for the printer and cant find one. Might have to go to China...lol

The better suppliers for Brothers printers include an inexpensive .38 pistol with each order, loaded with one bullet to fire into the heart of the printer. The really upscale suppliers for Brothers devices include two bullets. The second bullet is for the owners of Brothers printers who insist on sticking with the brand.

In light of the recent events in Connecticut, I find your comment in poor taste.

As a vehement "gun rights" opponent, Yoli, I'd have to say you may be right. It would be a stretch to connect the two, but I would not want to see anything diminish the impact of what happened at Newtown.

I'm a dieheart loyal HPlaserjet printer fan. I've had two I've outlived over past 12 years, the others have hung out with me. Just bought a second HP4350 for the road ahead. Very reliable...just bought the second one just in case one fails under pressure. For now I can print in unison, there are days when I need to fire both of them up in concert.
I would love to see an analysis of cost+ppm+life span + reliability issues between brother/hp/canon/lexmark. Not to mention loss of productivity while we have to shop for replacement printer under fire.
Too many wonderful foods today, and pinot...need a nap. Back at it tomorrow.

Agreed. You can find refurbished HP 4350 TNs & DTNs for about $400 on Ebay and online. They print about 50 ppm (depending on how the docs were scanned), and good 20000 page remanufactured toners can be found for less than $50. If you are busy, you can save hours and a great deal of stress when you can print 2 copies in less than 10 minutes.

If you want to stick with Brother this one is the printer I purchased in August. I really love it. Tray 1 and 2 each will hold a ream of paper. I got toner cartridge for about $33 @ http://www.tonerpirate.com/brother-tn-720-compatible-toner-cartridge-dcp-8150-hl5470-hl6180-mfc-8710.html

I'm not looking for printer recommendations
I'm fully aware of the various printers out there.
So I'm assuming there are no answers to my questions. Nothing is coming up in my web search so Ill just reach out to Brother directly.

Re: I'm not looking for printer recommendations
I went through exactly the same exercise recently with my 5370. No problems at all but reaching the dreaded 100K page mark. Replacing the laser and fuser are very expensive compared to a refurb unit (and I had a few toners and a drum for that unit that will not fit the new model) so I opted for an additional printer. the refurb from Staples is $149, and if you catch a sale on line it comes down to the $120's. The printer arrived looking and performing like new with the same warranty. I am happy and now have a backup printer.

Yoli gave you an answer and solution. I have done this too,
and it works. Msg #447751 There are other posts here that address how to do this - we have been doing them for several years now.
