Smartphone for NSAS
Looking for an update on best smartphone for NSAs. I read some older posts here and right now I’m favoring the Iphone 5 and Samsung Galaxy SIII. Which do you all think is best for our work?

Re: The one I can hear ring.
LOL, jba. I can hear my DroidX ring, but when I need it to be "smart" it freezes up on me.

Sorry -I have an older phone, I'm a dinosaur and don't adapt
to this technology as quickly as you must. I'm dying to have the Samsung, but will probably take 5 years to learn its capabilities. I just want a loud ring I can hear over the shower, the radio while driving and over a 3 yr old deciding to chat me up when I answer the phone. Real basic!
You are going to get lots of opinions though.....have fun.

I'm with you on the ring. Smart or not, it must be set to ring close to a normal telephone ring (no music or funky sound) and be set as loud as possible.

Am I really the only Notary left with a flip phone and Garmin GPS? "Work good, last long time!" But, thank you. I am enjoying learning from you all. I will open that door someday, but just not today...

Have you looked at the Motorola Razr? I like the large screen, 4G fast, and it is a much sturdier than the iphone.

Yes, Linda, I saw your post on the Proclaim and made a note to research it and Straight Talk. That may be the route I need to take and get away from the contract. Mine w/Verizon is up this January. I would just need to make sure coverage would be at least equal to what I have w/them now since I'm in a very rural area (which may contribute to some of my current problem, but signal has been stong whenever freeze up occurs).

Verizon provides the best coverage in my area
of cows and horses and donkeys; dairy farms and back roads. My cell phone coverage is fantastic. I almost never lack a signal.
I'm so impressed we took the plunge and got their home phone service too - great connectivity - $15/month.

Boost Mobile has no contract; $40 a month unlimited calling. Boost offers the Samsung Galaxy and Replenish. The only thing I've really figured out about the apps on the phone is how to read my email; not respond, understand, but at least read.
"Apps," in my case, stands for "appalling plenitude of phone stupidity."
It also rings loud enough to get the attention of Julie's aging ears.

If you are used to the Ipad, Ipod, MAC world you should love the Iphone. Personally, I have had both the Droids and the Iphone. I personally prefer the Droid because you don't need to download and app for EVERYTHING! Droids have voice option keyboard, voice calling, and voice navigation for free. The navigation is pretty accurate. I believe it uses Google Maps. I hated my Iphone, but it could have been because I went from a Droid to the Iphone. I am back with the Droid X and love it. I have Verizon and coverage is awesome.

Thank you Penney! This is going to be a tough decision for sure. Has your Droid ever frozen up on you?

I'm still in the dinosaur age to some. I have the Iphone 3gs. I'm 3 behind. Oh well. It works great for me.

I have the Droid X and love it. For the past few months, I've been looking at the Droid Razr Maxx and the Samsung Galaxy SIII. Have yet to make a decision although I'm leaning towards the Samsung.
I've had Verizon forever and love them too. My contract is up the end of this month. Guess I'll go into WalMart and check on Straight Talk and Mobile Boost to compare their plans with Verizon ... one of these days.

I have the Razr Maxx after having had the Droid X2. The X2 took a swim so I had to get a replacement and I was offered the Maxx through my Verizon Insurance. I absolutely love it! It does everything I need & more. Highly recommend it.

If you can buy a GalaxySII from someone who
wants to trade up, doesn't charge you an arm/leg, and it's in good shape, etc. the SII is a great phone...I have one, and I want the SIII, but I do not know why. The SII is barely different from the SIII, except for the newer Android operating system.
My SII is a beaut. It has a gorgeous screen, great 8 megapixel camera. (I use it to snap receipts for taxes, scan documents, etc. in addition to taking pictures of things I like/love/want.) I have apps to track how far I walk, where my car is in a huge parking lot, and, OMG...I have Words with Friends, Angry Birds, and Solitaire, baby.
I also watch Netflix on the generous, awesome screen, and I listen to Audible.com books on the road, standing in line, and anywhere else that I am bored and can get by with plugging into my earplugs.
And, TA DA!!!! For $15 a month, I have a 4G hotspot with 5Gb of use per month and can connect it to my IPad, my Kindle, my laptop, etc. It is fast as heck as a hotspot. (I know that some SIII users do it by jail-braking, etc., but I don't do that.)
I have never had an IPhone. I doubt that I ever will. This year I have learned that they have terrible maps and they played havoc with our Outlook Exchange Calendars at work. The Galaxy S was very nice to have...it was a peach. I still have it by the bed as a back up alarm clock and use it as a timer, but, my SII is a dream come true.
I have had T-Mobile, soon to be something else, for going on 12 years...since it was Voicestream. Since I could not get an IPhone at T-M, I was forced to become a Galaxy user. Now, I am a nut.

Re: If you can buy a GalaxySII from someone who
I'm also a T-Mobile Galaxy user. (I've been with T-Mobile since they moved to CA - however long that has been.) Got the SIII end of last summer (upgrading from a Blackberry), and I still have so much to learn.
One of my favorite things so far is the smart alarm. The whole alarm thing took me a while to get down, but I love the fact that I have it set to start out with a quiet lilting melody that gently eases me into the day about 10 minutes before the time I set. I stop it with a swipe. In five minutes, I get my 2nd gentle reminder, and then five minutes later - the actual wake-up time - it comes on a little louder, with a little more action required to turn off. Ahhhh, GSIII, where have you been all my life? (BTW, you can set the intervals and pick whatever tone or melody you want.)
After I get through this month, I'm hoping to find some time to explore more apps.
One recommendation, though, for any device with a touch screen, is a Zagg skin to protect it. One of the best things I ever invested in! I got mine on sale at Staples for about $16, kinda spur of the moment (taking advantage of a BOGO on letter paper) but I bet there are deals available online. This thing has a lifetime guarantee, cuts glare, and protects against fingerprints and any other potential harm to the screen. What a difference!

I'm about ready to upgrade my Droid X for the new
Samsung Galaxy III, too. Many more features & a lot faster. I'm not an "I" person. Shopping prices between Verizon store & Costco. I have bought my last 2 phones from Costco (free accessories). ;-)

Thank you all so much! I think I'm sold on the Galaxy SIII (unless I find the II as Brenda suggested). This was a great help!
