UPS is the worst...VENT!!!!!

Never again will I drop a UPS package in their drop box. I had a closing Nov. 27th dropped the package off the same day before the pick up time. I get a frantic call from the title company yesterday stating where is the package. I informed them it was dropped off in the drop off box and asked did you track it. They tried to track it but the package was never scanned by the driver. The package is now somewhere in the dark hole of UPS...What do I do now? I've had FEDEx misplace once and they found it a couple of days later. I will now go out of my way to the UPS to get a receipt!!!!

For some people, they don't have the luxury to walk in and get a receipt. But, I ALWAYS do, just to cover my behind. May take extra time, but well worth it.

I have to drive 15 miles to get to a secured facility

where I hand it to someone at a counter - but that's what I do. #1 as I've said before, I don't have drop boxes in my town for either FedEx OR UPS and #2 I'm just more comfortable with doing that - at least I ahve the peace of mind knowing the package isn't sitting at the bottom of some box somewhere.

I'm guess the OP is looking at a re-sign and I'm hoping they get paid for the first one because it's a he said/she said situation unless the original package turns up at UPS - unfortunately, funding may not be able to wait.

Good luck.

Never used a Drop Box and never will. I go out of my way to get a receipt. It's my only proof that the package was dropped off.

Call UPS and get them to go to the dropbox.

Had this happen once, the driver was marking down that he had picked up at the box and they found that packages were stacked on the ground all around the box and it was stuffed full, driver hadn't picked up for over a week. My package was still in the box.

Re: Call UPS and get them to go to the dropbox.

And FedEx does not have the same thing happen to their items.
FedEx usually has a Sat pick at the FedEx location whrer I drop at 12 noon, but we have a relief driver ever now and ten that sticks by the11 A M cut off time. If I call for a home pick up an am told that 11 AM is the cut off to request a Sat pick up. So what is the difference. We both have a screw up.

Re: Call UPS and get them to go to the dropbox.

my fedex kinkos takes pacs till 7:30pm, mon-fri, till 1pm sat and i have a hub till 8pm and 3pm on sat. all our ups are only till 6pm. i much prefer fedex in my area.
lost a purchase once in a ups box, never again, i went to the hub to look for and also had a driver dive in the box with me, nothing there. i believe driver lost it, don't know how but he must have. plus our peeps at our ups hub have a major attitude, not helpful, fedex is.

I was replying to the OP, just told what happened.

What's with the hostility? I didn't berate UPS, although I could very easily. The same with Fed Ex. Please explain how IYO, leaving packages sitting in a box for a week without a pickup is even comparable to not doing a home pickup due to a cut off time.

BTW, UPS called me back and told me the driver had picked up at the box for the week after indicated on his trip sheet that he had been making the pickups. They also called the TC and explained the problem to them. I hope they fired him! Due to that UPS driver's actions, the package had to be resigned and the TC didn't want to pay for the resign either. Only use the UPS drop boxes in front of the Courts since then, otherwise they go to the UPS store or distribution center.

that's happened to me as well...UPS drop boxes not

reliable, but what do you do when their stores close at 6pm with a drop off deadline of like 3pm?

I totally hate using UPS drop boxes, but sometimes you have no choice. I always take a picture of the package with the tracking number on it to track it.

But sometimes that doesn't even help if its UPS wonderland.

Good luck getting a receipt

None of the UPS stores in my area provide receipts - they will only provide a copy of the tracking number so you can track it online. Since I print two copies of any airbill, that does me no good. Besides, the reason I ask for a receipt is to have proof UPS took possession of the package.

Good Point Linda

i do the same at ups to prove it was taken. i can't get supplies either or when i press they will give very little. they want you ti have an account to get them. no big deal, i just prefer fedex in my area.

Both UPS & FedEx make frequent mistakes.

The back of most UPS & FedEx package trucks read "This truck makes frequent stops," I want to change the word ""truck" to "driver" and the word "stops" to "mistakes." I've mentioned my experiences with both companies on this & other forums. I've even filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau & the Attorney General in addition to the formal written complaints that I sent to said companies (all to no avail). They call me back to apologize and to give excuses.

But, they hardly ever solve the problem. And, rather than rehash the same problems that many of you are already familiar with [unfortunately], we all know that complaining doesn't solve the problem, no matter how loudly or how often we do it. Sadly, this horrible trend will most likely continue (to worsen, no doubt). Good luck, everybody. JMHO

Like any other company, money talks

When I worked for a huge corporation with a huge account ... the folks at UPS and FedEx couldn't bend over far enough or jump high enough faster. They seldom messed up, but when they did - I got presents (brown sweaters!) and people actually showing up in my office to apologize. I could call about a missing item, they'd put me on hold and immediately call the driver - if he had to turn around, it was on a dime.

As lowly little accounts such as we are ... not the same game, is it. Personally, I've yet to have an issue with either courier (7 yrs now, always drop-boxes, always on-line labels), but if I did - I at least know what kind of service they're capable of if you happen to have a big enough account.

I suppose the moral to this story is: If UPS is the shipper and you have no choice but to use a drop box, plan on scanning the ENTIRE loan package to a password protected file before shipping and keep until after you receive payment. Annoying and extra work - YES, but at least you'll have *something* to forward electronically to the TC if this were to ever happen again with another signing ( with any company) down the road.

LKT - are you kidding me? I'm always amazed at what people will do "just in case." SS or TC has instructed you to drop with UPS. You drop with UPS. Your job is done. You don't have to (and don't get paid to) implement special procedures in case UPS doesn't do their job. If they lose a pkg, title company can complain to UPS or change their carrier or procedures. I never get a receipt and I frequently use drop boxes. Signing agents should do the job they've been hired to do - no need to provide extra, un-requested services for free (=less stress and more profit).

<<<LKT - are you kidding me? I'm always amazed at what people will do "just in case.">>>

There is no "just in case"......missing docs has *happened*. Therefore, if I experienced what the OP experienced with UPS, then *going forward* I would absolutely protect myself from UPS's future incompetence.

<<< You don't have to (and don't get paid to) implement special procedures in case UPS doesn't do their job.>>>

Refer to 1st comment.

<<< If they lose a pkg, title company can complain to UPS.....>>>

They didn't...they called the NSA complaining, mainly because the last verifiable place the docs were at was with the NSA. No receipt from the shipper means the docs have not "changed hands", which means no verification that the shipper possesses the docs. Thus, the NSA is still held accountable by the TC and

<<< I never get a receipt and I frequently use drop boxes. >>>

Great.....and hopefully, a missing package in the drop box will never happen to you.

<<<Signing agents should do the job they've been hired to do - no need to provide extra, un-requested services for free (=less stress and more profit).>>>

No, it's not unrequested services for free - it's called CYA...

If the UPS Store or Mailbox or Goin' Postal is closed ( ours close at 6pm) I leave it with our Staples. They always give me a receipt. If Staples is closed and if it's a FedEx pkg (Staples only has a drop box for FedEx) I take it home and turn it over the next morning, since it would've missed the previous night's flight anyway. It's a heckofalot safer in my home than in any drop box. You can only do what you can do. If I have to make a special trip for it the next day, I write off the mileage as a business expense.

Re: and rates are going up for both ups and fedex!!

Ask the Title or Escrow company to sign-up with ShipTropolis.com so you can print UPS and Fedex labels on demand on their account.

1. ShipTropolis.com is secure for the title/escrow company.
2. It's easy for notaries to quickly create labels on demand.
3. It ensures the notary doesn't get wrongfully stuck with the shipping cost.

Disclaimer: I work for ShipTropolis

Cheers,
Bob

I'm sorry. you have all had such problems with UPS and Fed Ex in my town both the FedEx office and UPS store personnel are great. always give me receipts and always give me envelopes when I ask. At the UPS store they see me pull in to the parking lot and usually have the envelopes laying on the counter for me. On another note I also get business from them the FedEx Office because they don't have any notaries and the UPS store when some one needs a mobile notary or someone calls them for a loan signing. I send the UPS store business when someone calls and just needs a couple of documents notarized. I give them a cheaper alternative than me. It has brought me other business because they appreciate that I gave them the alternative. Also during the recent Charter black out before Thanksgiving I was able to use the free WiFi at FedEx to download emails to my computer and continue to work with out any major interruptions.
