Always confirm signing location

I didn't have any appointments for yesterday as I had to have my taxes done and was meeting with an insurance agent in the afternoon.

On my way back from getting my taxes done, I recieved a call for a signing. I accepted the assignment. I usually confirm the location but for some reason ( brain damage ) I didn't this time as I had the address on the assignment sheet.

On the way to the signing I get another call for an assignment that evening. I accepted that one and went on to my first signing. I went way out of town out in the sticks only to find the house vacant with a for sale sign out front. I tried to call the borower but had no cell phone service in that area. So I drove back to the freeway and found a spot where I could use my cell phone. Borower said "oh I'm buying that house, my current address is:" So I drive to the other side of town way out in the sticks again by the dump, found his house and the signing went well. So for you newbees, confirm the signing location everytime.

When I get home and start to print out docs for second signing, my computer decided to start moving like a snail. Two pages would finally print then a big pause then 2 more pages. I used the time to fix dinner and I ate while the second set was printing. I made it on time and all went well.

I have to call my computer guy to tune up my computer.

I learned the hard way too a long time ago. I called and confirmed, but not the location. When I arrived the people living in the house didn't have a clue to who I was and what I was there to do. They were the renters, not the owners. The owners lived in another state and were re-fi ing their rental property. Always remember that the SS or Title sometimes just assume that the property address is the signing address. They scrambled that night finding another notary in the state that the borrowers were in. This is why sometimes we get frantic last minute calls.

Last year, a day after a major ice storm, I received a call for a closing, confirmed with borrower, even brought up the address on maps. Got to the location came to lake, no home. Called the borrower and confirmed the address again, after about 5 minutes looking over a frozen lake, I saidto the borrower, "I have no idea where to go all I see is a frozen lake" his reply was" my lake is not frozen, it's 80 degrees out here." Never confirmed the state, goes without saying, don't assume. Needless to say, we both had a good laugh. Signing company sent me full pay and they had a good laugh as well.

Have had this happen too. Don't always remember to ask all the questions I should when the calls come in. Guess it is that I am sssooooo glad to get a call, or maybe too busy to pay attention. LOL. My policy, for me, is to arrive 10 - 15 minutes early, and when I confirm with bo I ask about parking, where and is it difficult to find a spot, as well as a description of the house that will help me locate it more easily. Since I map each one, when I can, I sometimes remember to say what main road I am coming on, and that has helped when construction causes detours, or they just know a better way. my2cents Lexie

We had a signing assignment last evening in downtown SF. The lender gave us the wrong condo unit number in the signing order. They mistakenly told us unit 163 when it should have been unit 16J.

If the NSA did not verify the address and unit number with the borrower prior to going there, she would have been late for her appointment.

Checking and verifying addresses is just as, if not more important than checking out who is asking you to do a signing for them.
