Commission
Just about finished renewing my notary license. Ordered my supplies from Notary Rotary. Great customer service - received my supplies within 2 days - Thanks Harry.

Notaries in CA are commissioned, not licensed.
Sorry, this is a burr in my side every time I see it. The local UPS store advertises their notary services this way. We are not licensed; we are commissioned by the State. No offense intended, but this is an FYI.

If you are aware of the difference, why not use the correct wording? Not trying to start a fuss but......why?

Really? Yes really! She advertises herself as DocExpert, just wondering why you would choose incorrect wording?

Agree with Jan and Sandra
If the OP knows the correct terminology - ESPECIALLY a renewing notary, she needs to use the correct terminology. After being called on it, if the OP had said (as Cheryl did)..."Oops, sorry...meant to say "commissioned", not licensed...then it would have made the difference. But instead, to say one knows the difference and still use incorrect terminology is unprofessional.
IMHO, Sandra and Jan are right in calling the OP out. If a notary cannot show respect to his/her OWN SOS appointment as a *commissioned* officer....how will anyone ELSE show respect to the SOS appointment??

She was called on it, why continue unless you are trying to
"start a fuss"?

Re: She was called on it, why continue unless you are trying to
I was just wondering what her reasoning was....she must have had a reason since she knew the difference. Are we not allowed to question when we see/read something we don't understand?

I am a licensed insurance agent and a licensed mortgage broker...sometimes I get confused and say licensed!

James Bond is licensed to kill.
Good thing that he does not work on commission. Lighten up, people. At least nobody was doing a notary.

I agree with Susan, Cheryl's been doing notaries for years
by her own admission.
It must be in the name, after all, I am "NotaryByCheryl".
I know the difference too. Yeah, and? What does Google mean? How about yahoo? There's Bing and Firefox. Most common folk have no idea how grammatically incorrect or WRONG it is. But that's okay; it's at the top of the search engine...at least if you're talking in terms of alphabetical listings.
