No, seriously...just remove the rubber stamp from the holder and cut it up with scissors.

Don't ever throw it away. The method most of us use and the safest, is to take it to area 51 where you will be met by a person who will be dressed as Alice in wonderland who will take the stamp from you. You are not allowed in and may be shot by snipers if you so much as attempt to enter. The stamp will now be safely destroyed. If you don't want to make the trip, you can just cut it up although this is also risky.
